I have three days in Italy that I am unsure what to do with. I have car that I am renting from Bergamo airport, and I would like to see the Cinque Terre & perhaps Lucca.

Can anyone give me any suggestions of where I can stay and centralize myself so I can do day trips to Lucca and Cinque Terre on those three days while also being able to explore the town I stay in.

I arrive later into Lake Como and Milan so I would like to stay somewhere different to that.

Hi,

You do have a few options.

a) Stay in Santa Margherita - its approx 2.5hrs drive from Bergamo & use it as a base to explore the villages of Portofino, Camogli, Genoa, San Fruttuoso, Rapallo, & the 5 villages of Cinque Terre. All easy reached by train or ferry from santa Margherita as day trips. The town is also very interesting with some excellent hotels.

b) Santa Margherita to Lucca.- approx 1.5hrs drive.

c) Stay in Levanto - approx 1.2mins to Lucca.

d) stay in Pisa - approx 30mins to Lucca & 1.2hrs drive to Cinque Terre.

You could visit Lake Como which is stunning & makes a good day trip from Milan. However; its better to stay overnight as the region is stunning. Its approx 1.5hrs to Bellagio from Bergamo Airport.
