Hi
We will be staying in Bergamo from Sat 3 to Tues 6 December.
Is there a Christmas market in Bergamo at this time? Or in any nearby towns or cities?

Interested in Bergamo?
We'll send you updates with the latest deals, reviews and articles for Bergamo each week.
Hi!
There's a Christmas Market in Piazzale Alpini, near the railway station. It is open every day from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Bye :)
Hi
I too am going to Bergamo, arriving 8th December :-)
Last year there was also a lovely market near the Donizetti Theatre, will that be there this year Girella?
Also, is there any chance of snow this year?
Ciao!
Ammber
Hi Ammber!
You're probably referring to the Feast of Saint Lucia. It's on the Sentierone, near Doninzetti Theatre from 10th to 13th December.

As for snow, It's hard to predict! We have had a really warm autumn but I don't know how long it will last.
Enjoy your stay!
Bye :)
Hi Girella
Thanks for your earlier reply.
We were in Bergamo for a few days two years ago. We spent some time in Bergamo itself but we also took the train into Milan one day and went to Bellagio via Lecco and Varenna on another day.
Can you recommend anywhere else nearby that would be worth visiting and which would be readily accessible by train?

Hi!
It's winter ( almost!) so I think you'll be better off in a town: should it be bad weather you can find shelter in a museum, shop, coffee bar..
Verona,IMO, is a very nice day trip.
Otherwise Cremona or Pavia. They're all a 2hr journey by train.
If you prefer lakes: Desenzano on Lake Garda - it's a 1.45 hr journey.

Then there are longer trips like Turin...
If you have children with you they may enjoy a visit to Minitalia.

It's not far from Bergamo and you get there by NETbus, getting off at the Capriate bus stop.
Bye :)
Here are some links you may find useful

Cremona is famous for its violin makers and its sweet: Torrone

...only in Italian :(
Many thanks Girella,
We leave on 10th but will have plenty of time to visit the market before we go. Also, do you know of any concerts/recitals that may be happening 8-9th? There is one at the Donizetti on 10th at 5.00 pm - about the time we will have to leave :-( I've looked at the websites but can't see anything, perhaps you might know?
Ciao
Ammber
Sorry Ammber, I can't help you :((

Bye :)
Thanks Girella for all your suggestions.
We have been to Verona previously (to the opera, on a warm summer's evening - what an experience!) but may consider going again anyway.
We might consider Lake Garda if we get some good weather. Cremona and Pavia both look interesting. We know a little bit of Italian so the website was not a problem - besides, there's always Google Translator :-)
Grazie mille

Just got back from a weekend in bergamo. Not really a huge fan of Christmas Markets, but the 1 in Bergamo near to the train station is good to walk around and spend some time looking at. It was far more impressive than I first expected.
