“ day trip to Sierra Nevada? ”

We will be in Granada for a few days.

New Year's Day I assume most places will be closed. We will not have a car-is there a bus or way to visit Sierra Nevada for the day?

Obviously, we will not be skiing, but would love to see the vistas -in a cozy lodge-maybe???

There is a bus that goes from the main bus station in Granada to the Sierra Nevada every morning. Last year one left at 8am and the other at 10am. They returned at 4pm and 6pm I presume it will be the same timetable this year. I can't remeber exactly but I think it cost €12 per person return trip.

Plenty of bars / cafes / restaurants to chill out once you are up there and it seems that a lot of people often go up without any intention to ski.

I am not sure if they will run on New Years day. I think that they probably will but that is a guess and I don't know. I think your best bet would be to get in touch with Cetursa the management company of Sierra Nevada: http://en.sierranevada.es/

n.b. more likely to get an answer by phone rather than email.

The bus journey takes approx. 1hour

casamurray - Can you give us an update? Did you go? I will be visiting Granada in May, and definitely want to do a day hiking in Sierra Nevada.

We did not get there. Had to settle for the beautiful views-snow capped over the Alhambra-can even see as walking around Granada-fabulous!
