 Documenta in Kassel

I am going to Kassel for the first time for the art fair Documenta but I am unclear of the actual location of Doumenta and which area I should be looking for hotels that are close to it. Any advice or hotel recommendations would be much appreciated

The more central the better.

Exact locations of Documenta are not yet announced, but Museum Fridericianum and documenta-Halle will be two of them.

Hi Leaanne,

I lived in Kassel for 7 years. On the following link you'll find the Moevenpick Hotel => moevenpick-hotels.com/hotels/… . It is absolut central and it's a quite nice hotel with good food.

If it is to expensive, i can advice somthing else to you.

Follow up question: how much time do you recommend that a non-German speaking visitor should allow for Documenta? Documenta closes at 8 pm. We won't arrive in town until the late afternoon. The comment about multiple venues made me wonder whether we should allow for most or all of a day - or whether 3 hours is - if not sufficient, a nice taste of Documenta?

--> 3 hours aren't enough. I'm going too (my second visit after 2002) and I will have a 2-day-ticket and maybe an evening-ticket for the arriving day. Because there are different locations, in 3 hours you are only able to "run" through one location (maybe the Fridericianum).

We will go for the third time this year, and plan also 2 full days and an evening. One day is a bare minumum I would say.

We went to the mercure hotel but it no longer exists. Someone know if it just changed name?

I'm booking for August now, does anyone have accomodation tips who has just gone? I'm looking at the Mark Hotel Hessenland, the Intercity (no reviews on this site) and the Mark Domus.
