and when you buy your ticket into town on the RER,you can go ahead and buy other tickets you will need e.g. a carnet of metro tickets and your RER tickets out of the city

We were just there last week and we bought the Navigo Decouverte.(it's the orange one week pass) It was perfect for us as we were there from Monday through Saturday.

The pass takes you anywhere in Paris on the Metro and it also grants you access to buses, and the RER which goes out to several of the suburbs. You can also use it, as we did, to get from CDG to Paris and back.

At €43, this is a very economical option compared to a one way cab ride from Paris to CDG at €84.

84! I had been told the taxi fare was closer to 45, have I been misled? Sorry I don't know where the euro key is.

we always take a cab in from the airport these days -- and back -- our prices have ranged from 40 to 55E -- it would be an odd day, it would be 84E (I don't have a Euro key so I just use an 'E') and if you come into Orly it is less more like 35E to the Latin Quarter and 45E to the 17th which we did this fall.

Just for information. If you have a Windows computer with a separate numeric keypad, you can get the € symbol by holding down the Alt key and typing 0128 on the number keypad.
