 CDG to Amboise

arrive in Paris June 4th at 2:00 PM. Need to get to amboise and see train from CDG at 4:20PM and 6:00 pm. since we land at 2:00 we do not think we have enough time to go through customs, etc for the 4:20. If we buy tickets for the 4:20 and do not make it, do we have to buy new tickets for the later train? I also see you need to get on a local train at St Pierre Des Corps. Are there taxis instead to go to amboise from St Pierre. I am concerned if we are on the 6:00 train we will get to amboise after 9:00 pm. Or is there a bus service, sort of like the National Express Bus service out of Heathrow that goes to Amboise or even Tours. New to Paris and the Loire valley and would appreciate any help.

It is very unlikely that you would be able to take the 16.20 train, so book for 18.08.

Whether you can change your ticket depends on the kind of ticket you buy. See the T&C on the French railways web site.

For the best prices, book direct with the train operator as far ahead as possible. Tickets go on sale 3 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets sell out quickly. Prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.

You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at www.tgv-europe.com/en but use Antarctic as the "Ticket collection country" on the first screen to avoid being transferred to RailEurope, which has higher prices and does not list all the trains. For notes on online booking, see www.nickbooth.id.au/Tips/FrenchTrain.htm

It is 23 km from St-Pierre-des-Corps to Amboise. A taxi would want to be paid for a return trip, so maybe €40 to €50.

There is no bus service.

A much easier solution overall might be to take the Air France bus to Gare de Lyon, walk across the Seine to Gare Austerlitz and take the next TER train directly to Amboise.

The above schedule will change on July 8th and most trains now require a train change in Orléans.

I checked the tgv site you refer to. What does 17h mean. Is that 17:00 hour? I put in an earlier timeline just to get some idea of the times. It also talks about rer trains and then cdg1 or cdg2 . Does that refer to terminals at cdg

I will check into that thanks. Makes sense as I would not have to sit at the airport for a long time if I get through customs. No lugggage to wait for as I go carry on. I appreciate all the help

Transport in Europe uses the 24-hour clock. 06.00 is 6 am; 17.00 is 5 pm.

With no luggage to wait for,, i bet you could get the 4:20 but suppose its not worth the risk. my perosnal experience is that deboarding and getting through customs etc never takes two hours.

, looks like better time options from austerlitz station. Do i need to pre book that ticket, or just go to the station and buy a ticket for the next available train to amboise. if it costs more that is no problem as long as i should be able to get two tickets. Thanks again. I am new at this so i appreciate all the helpful answers.
