As you pass the toll point (between junctions 6 & 7), the registration or licence number of your car is automatically registered and a toll charge is automatically logged against the car.

To pay the toll, you can use a Payzone which is a payment facility available in many petrol stations and corner stores where you can pay the toll. These premises usually have an external sign indicating a Payzone facility. You simply give the cashier or store attendant your car registration number and make the appropriate payment.

Alternatively, phone to 1890 50 10 50 Monday to Sunday 7am to 11pm and make the payment by credit card. If you have access to a PC, you can pay online by credit card at www.eflow.ie. You have until 8pm the following day to pay for your journey.

If you do not pay, the cost will be paid by the rental company who will then levy the cost plus handling charges and penalties onto your credit card.

Be sure you know whether or not your car rental company pays it on your behalf and then charges you on your rental agreement. Thrifty and Hertz both do this. Others may as well.

If you pay it and the rental company also pays it, you'll be paying double.

Don't come to Maryland then, we have them here too. :) Without the ease of paying at a store.

I think "toll collector" will be added to the list of obsolete professions like "typewriter repairman" within a few short years.

Around Miami, FL also has them and there you have to use the rental car's service (which is highway robbery with a daily fee plus an add-on to the actual toll rate).
