 City Location Advice

I will be visiting Ireland for the first time in May and need some advice about neighborhoods and hotels in Dublin. I will not have a car and hope to stay near the center of the city, within walking distance of major attractions. I'm leaning against Temple Bar, because it seems a little too boisterous.

Any suggestions about neighborhoods and/or hotels for a first time visitor to Dublin? I'm planning to spend between $100-$200 per night.

Check out hotels in the Dublin 2 or Dublin 4 areas. Dublin 2 is south city centre (including Temple Bar but also including a range of other quieter areas). Dublin 4 includes inner suburbs adjacent to Dublin 2. Hotels which would fit your requirements in terms of location include Buswells, Mont Clare, Davenport, Alexander, Brooks, Trinity Capital, Grafton Capital and Jurys Inns.

St Stephen's Green is very central. Lots if places in that area.

Thank you for the advice. It was very helpful. I have narrowed my list to the following hotels:

-Gresham

-Buswells

-Maldron, Parnell Square

-Staunton's on the Green

-Morgan

-Academy Plaza Inn

Would anyone recommend one hotel on this list over the others?

Th Morgan doesn't receive much comment on this forum - also, it's in Temple Bar. I think I'd drop it from list.

If you can get a deal at the Gresham that suits your budget, book it.

None of the others come close.

I don't think the Gresham is the best option. I think Buswells is the best on that list

Any other opinions? The price for the Gresham and Buswells is almost the same. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Are they located in the same area?

Buswells is near Kildare St Museum, Trinity, and Grafton St shopping. Gresham is near the Writers' museum and the Hugh Lane Gallery. For location, I'd prefer Buswell's- a few nice pubs around there too, and heaps more places to eat.

We're staying at the Best Western Academy Plaza Hotel, just a bit north of the Temple Bar area. I wanted something close, but something that wouldn't be in that super busy area. If you contact them via phone, you can get some good deals ( I got an upgraded room + $60/night knocked off. really surprised me!)
