 GOOD REPORT- Insurance4carhire.com

Before leaving for Ireland, we purchased the SCDW through insurance4carhire.com. We had an accident and were charged the deductible (approx $1700) by Murrays/Sixt (don't get me started on the terrible experience we had with them re. the accident and follow up- they were HORRIBLE).

Once we were able to get the accident report from Sixt (a month later- again, don't get me started)- Insurance4carhire wired the money to our bank account within hours of receiving the necessary documents. They were easy to contact, always prompt in their replies, and sent our money very quickly.

When I was researching them I had a hard time finding anyone who had actually had a claim - so wanted to let others know of the good service we received. The only down side is that you must pay the charges ($1700) and wait to be reimbursed. We knew this going in so were prepared - just not expecting the lack of service received from Sixt.

It is a good point that you knew the money would be deducted and not reimbursed for a while. Many people taking out 3rd party insurance are under the impression that the 3rd party (Insurance4carhire or others) sorts everything out and gives the payment straight away. Sorry you had a bad experience with an Irish car hire operator, unfortunately you are not alone and it isn't restricted to just one company.

I also had occasion to make a claim with insurance4carhire last year after hiring a car in Sicily. The damage that occurred was entirely fake but we paid up in order to get on our flights and sent all the details to insurance4carehire when we got back. Although it took a while for them to process the claim, and they are not great at contactability, it was paid in full and when we finally did make contact, the operators were very easy to deal with and maintained their contact.

borod, sorry for the problems you had...but it doesn't matter which rental agency you use...if you don't buy your scdw from the rental counter, you always have to have the large hold put on your card and you have to be out the money if there is an accident and collect from whomever insures you....

usually, one of us will tell you that...don't know how we missed it.....

do you mind telling me how much the insurance4carhire cost, for how many days?.....i would be interested in looking into it for my next trip.....

The cost for the insurance was approx $81.00 (US) - certainly a good investment given our unexpected accident! The insurance is valid for one year and covers the tires, the undercarriage, lost keys, etc- that are not covered with the regular CDW.

I knew the auto rental agency would put the hold on my credit card and that it would take a bit of time to be reimbursed. What I was surprised by was the fact that they (the car hire agency) did not want to provide us with another car after our accident and that it took us a couple of weeks to make contact with them once we returned home.

I had posted my question but since you just used Insurance 4 carhire let me ask directly. I'm leaving on Monday evening for Ireland, if I purchase the policy tonight or tomorrow is that enough time. Is everything done through emails were it would be instant. Also did you just take the paperwork with you and show that as proof?

It's all done through e-mails and is very fast. You won't need proof, but no harm to carry policy with you for reference.

Agree with last post- it's all done via email and you get your confirmation quickly. No need to bring any paperwork with you- the car hire agency doesn't really care whether you have the SCDW or not as they get their money either way.

Safe travels!

I will be in Ireland in late October and am renting (hireing) a car. I went on the insurance4hire website and would like to know which policy to purchase. They have one offered called Europe 31 for about 39Euro per year not bad considering what the care hire companiies charge. Any suggestions?
