 Bath - Baby free break

My husband and I are coming to Bath for a 4 day holiday (16th - 19th March) while our little boy has a holiday with his grandparents!

We came and spent a few days when I was pregnant so have been to the Roman Baths and the Thermae Spa and probably won't do either again.

We're staying at Beckington travelodge to save pennies on accomodation that we can spend elsewhere.

So far we're thinking one night seeing Funny Peculiar at the Bath Theatre Royal - where can we eat beforehand? Also thinking to eat at Jamie's Italian one night too.

We're not drinkers/clubbers - just looking for a nice weekend doing things we can't do when the little fella is with us (ie stay out after 6pm!)

What other things can you recommend in Bath and the surrounding area. I'd like to tootle around the shops for some of the time - any hidden gems? While giving me time to shop my husband likes to read - any great bookshops you can recommend? as well as coffee shops where he can linger with a book and a great filter coffee? Also some places of interest we can see together.

I'm going to gather info from this site and the Visit Bath site too but first hand recommendations can't be beaten!

Thank you.

That travelodge is about a 20 minute drive from Bath: Frome is a 5 minute drive, and IMO is worth a visit for a stroll, like most of the towns in the area (incl Bath) it's original wealth was based on the wool trade. There is a magnificent parish chuch, and loads on nice architecture to look at.

The same can be said of Bradford on Avon, which has a very ancient Saxon church, plus a huge tithe barn. There used to be a fantastic chinese restaurant in BoA, not sure if it i still there.

In Bath, I am not a fan of Jamie's: the Firehouse rotisserie is very close to the theatre, and has a nice atmosphere. If those days are a weeekend, you will need to book anywhere decent you want to eat. The Circus restaurant is classy, not sure if they do a pre-theatre meal.

Hi there

if you enjoy great pubs, then Bath is a haven for you. It has lots of quaint and quirky pubs in the city centre, many of which feature in the latest CAMRA Good Beer Guide. One's to look out for include The Bell in Walcot St, where there's usually live music on Sunday lunchtimes, The Hop Pole on Upr Bristol Rd, bit of a walk but well worth the effort, The King William on Thomas St, The Old Green Tree on Green St, The Salamander on John St, and The Star on The Vineyards, all great real ale pubs and mostly quite Olde Worlde
