 PPCH vs Novotel London Waterloo

I'm planning a family vacation in the fall. We will rely on taxis, foot and the Open Air Bus Tour to get around London.

The Park Plaza County Hall London (PPCH) Hotel is by London Eye. The room comes with free wifi, more centrally located, excludes breakfast and the room is larger in size.

The Novotel London Waterloo is a 3 to 5 minute drive south of PPCH, excludes wifi and the room is a little smaller. However, a breakfast buffet is included in the room rate and the rate is 33 pounds less per night than PPCH.

I'm thinking Novotel is the better deal even though it is less centrally located than PPCH. Your thoughts? Other considerations. Thanks for the read.

Breakfast or no breakfast, I would go with the County Hall.

Hi lordkimmage,

Can you elaborate on your response? Is it due to the neighbourhood, proximity to attractions, the hotel itself? Thanks.

PPCH is much better located with better transport options on the doorstep (Westminster/Waterloo) for bus, tube and rail connections. Walking distance to Westminster Abbey/Houses of Parliament, Whitehall and by the South Bank with cafes, restaurants theatres and galleries. Novotels are perfectly OK hotels but a grade down from the Park Plazas. Breakfast should be the least of your concerns. The Novotel Waterloo is also a bit out on a limb. You should really get travelcards for transport round London. Taxis are expensive and the HOHO is not suitable for general transportation.

PPCH is also 37 pounds more per night and is only 3-5 minutes drive more centrally located than Novotel. Breakfast was not my only consideration. Thanks for the input so far!

3-5 minutes more drive presumably by taxi.

As mentioned this is an expensive way to get around which will end up costing you more than you save.

Up to you but it would not be my choice as one who works near both and has stayed at PPCH.

Only you know how far your budget can stretch, but having stayed at PPCH many times and being somewhat familiar with the general area (although not as familiar obviously as the local experts), I would go with the PPCH as well. The location, as mentioned above, is very convenient. There are lots of restaurants nearby, as well as news agents and convenience type stores. The area along the South Bank nearby is always lively in good weather and a nice place to spend some down time if you have any. The location for public transport is good.

There's nothing actually wrong with the Novotel itself and the view of the Houses of Parliament from nearby Lambeth Bridge at sunrise is iconic but there's isn't that much in the immediate area and although a number of buses pass close to the front door the nearest tube station is a good 10-15 minute walk.

The PP is just that little bit nicer in almost every way.

I have reported post #8 as self promotion and will let TA decide if they think the same.

Whilst it can be helpful for accommodation providers and attractions to post here in response to problems I do think it dangerous if we allow them to promote their product, however pleasantly they go about it.

Think what would happen if the Park Plaza also responded. This thread, and potentially hundreds of others, would turn into beauty contests!

I suppose the Park Plaza did not need to respond. Because it is in another league to the Novotel. I wrote a hugely positive review of the PPCH recently. If the OP could persuade the PPCH to give him a room with a riverside view, then I would be inclined to opt for the PPCH. The windows are wall to ceiling and the view from the riverside rooms is both panoramic and alluring.

As regards breakfast, it's a consideration. But I would still choose the PPCH breakfast or no breakfast.
