 Best of British in Bloomsbury?

Hello guys, first post here, visiting London and was hoping for some local advice on finding the best eats and drinks within walking distance of the Bloomsbury Hotel. We're arriving from Paris via Eurostar on a Thursday and staying until the following Monday in mid-April? Specifically looking for traditional English fare, the best fish & chips, etc. and also sampling the finest ales the town has to offer. Any and all recommendations would be welcome!

The Jack Horner pub on Tottenham Court Road, good Fullers ales and reliable pub food including the Fullers' steak pies. It has a very pleasingly woody and spacious interior and can hold a lot of punters so it rarely feels too full. It's about 8 mins walk away.

Destination Expert   What's this?
for London

There are a couple of London's better fish and chips restaurants about 15 minutes walk from your hotel. Both are worth a visit -

And if you start longing for Paris then my favourite French Bistro is just around the corner - http://www.toptable.com/venue/?id=1602

Up there, I would be inclined to walk into town.

Thanks!

Now I am both hungry and thirsty.

Someone recommended the Princess Louise and the Ship Tavern, both in Holborn. Worth it? And what's a "Sam Smith's pub" ?

Sam Smiths are a brewery from Yorkshire who own quite a number of pubs, they are very low cost and some (me included) would say low quality. Their beer is just about drinkable after the first two have numbed the senses. They also make (or at least source and label) their own spirits, you won't see Smirnoff vodka or Jack Daniels for example, more likely "Tadcaster rye whiskey" or "Cleckheaton vodka" or whatever they call it.

The Princess Louise should be on your list though as it has a nice old interior resembling an old gin palace, etched mirrors and cool tiles everywhere. Maybe drink some kitchen cleaner before you go in, it should knock the edge off the beer.

(PS: Don't take this overly seriously, Smith's pubs do have their fans and give them credit, they're cheap. Or at least a little cheaper than say, Young's and Fullers. I'm just not a fan of the taste. Their interiors are quite often original and old).

Another vote for the North Sea Fish Restaurant. I had the best skate there about a month ago. We were there near their 2:30 closing time and many working fellas were storming the place for their afternoon chips break. Husband had the cod and loved it too, but if you like skate, definite go
