You really won't have time to travel to central London, but you might (stress that word) have time for a quick taxi journey to Windsor, a brief look around then back to the airport.
If you have booked a through ticket - your post says EDI but are you flying from that airport or GLA? - to EWR and your bags will be checked through then all you will need do is make your way from T1 to T4. There are no passport controls leaving the UK but there will be a passport check at the gate before your departure to EWR.
Taxis from Heathrow to Windsor take about 20 minutes; consider www.windsorcabs.co.uk www.royalwindsortaxis.co.uk and www.taxis-heathrow.co.uk
You'll need to be at T4 no later than 1400 for a 1600 departure as you will need to go through Security as at any other airport.
Thank you very much!
Although the headlines says GLA, have to suspect that you're not flying out of GLA? The only airline flying GLA to Heathrow is BA, and they use T5.
I'm guessing the itinerary is actually on bmi from EDI into T1?
You need to check whether your bags will be checked through or whether you need to collect them at T1 then check thenm in again for the second flight.
I don't know how my husband's name popped up as having asked the question when I signed in under my name
You are right, I am flying frm EDI and not Glasgow. I am ticketed through united-continental but this is the routing they set up. I am unsure whether I can check my luggage through, though I hope so! Guess if that happens we really won't have too much time. My experience flying into London as been very slow lines.
If you are through ticketed then Continental will be obliged to get you to Newark on the next available flight should you miss the connection. The trouble is that it could be next day!
Having said that you have plenty of time and will connect airside. This webpage explains the process - heathrowairport.com/heathrow-airport-guide/f…
