 London Football questions

My wife, daughter, son in law and myself are looking at the Fulham V Chelsea match on Monday April 9th, as my SIL follows football. I am aware that matches can have dates and times changed, so I am prepared for that a bit.

However, any thoughts on(1) how best to obtain tickets and (2) thoughts on bringing "wags" to a football match- Are they relatively safe and good fun etc. or should we just let the wife and daughter loose with the charge cards and go with my son in law only?

Any advice welcome.

(To add a little perspective, I have and would bring my wife to most US Football games, but not all stadiums, or at least sections of certain stadiums.)

You'd need to buy the tickets from Fulham - look on their website but it's a big match in a small stadium (and Easter Monday) so you may have trouble getting tickets. Your best bet is to join the club as a member. Otherwise perhaps consider other, less popular matches on that day.

As for the 'wag' question and whether you should 'let them loose with the charge cards' - that's a joke, right???

Other Premier League games on that day

Tottenham .v. Norwich

QPR .v. Swansea

Might be worth trying these games

Apply to the club direct, don't buy from scalpers (touts)

Are these close to London? I will be using the Tube for most transport.

Fulham and Chelsea are very near neighbours, geographically speaking there is less than 2 miles in it although speaking of league positions it's futher apart than that. You should bear in mind that fact when trying to get tickets... that's one of those few games at Craven Cottage that would sell out mega fast.

Imagine it like Cubs Vs White Sox if the Cubs fell on hard times. Fulham were huge in the 70's, but are not massive right now, and will not be challenging for honours at the end of the season... Chelsea are more like the White Sox, a huge following right now, and a real chance of winning a title or two. So the local frisson is there, if the league tension is not. And there's only 29,000 tickets in total. Not a big ground.

Would I bring my WAG? Of course, I always do.

How would I get a ticket? Sign up to the Fulham membership scheme, and pray. Even that's no guarantee though, especially for this game.

And now you've added that you're interested in other games, I'll have to post again!

Tottenham v Norwich should be easy to get tickets for, as will QPR v Swansea. They're not comparable to Fulham v Chelsea in terms of being local or contentious fixtures.

Tottenham have the better stadium but QPR are a little easier to get to and even offer a slightly more "compressed" atmosphere as the stands are near to the pitch and are more enclosed.

I would think the only way an out of towner could see that game would be with a hospitality package. These usually cost around three hundred pounds per person.

Best of luck.

Lord,

I actually found that option, and it is a bit too pricy for a casual "look see".

Canuck,

The QRP match does look interesting and easy to get to on the tube. Any thoughts on when tickets become available?

Destination Expert   What's this?

I think the Spurs match will be a sell out as they are challenging for the title whilst QPR are battling relegation and being a small ground with strong support, this is are also likely to mean tickets will be very hard to come by especially as Easter fixtures often attract bigger crowds.

You might have to look towards the lower leagues. In the Championship West Ham entertain Birmingham in a promotion battle. Tickets may well be available. Charlton who are top of League One are also at home on Easter Monday.

I'm not a Telegraph reader but I just came across this as I was reading about Everton - could be useful for tickets.
