London Calling- What to load onto my Ipod?

Just started a playlist for our April trip to London. I was looking through my music library and have many of the classic English bands covered- Some Clapton, Beatles, Who, Stones, Zevon :-)

I am looking for some additional songs that you might consider classic London songs- songs that make you think about London when you here them.

Any suggestions? I have pretty eclectic tastes, so feel free to point me towards just about any music style...

(I might be the only middle aged guy in America with Girls Aloud on his Ipod!)

"For Tomorrow" by Blur is one of the classic London songs from the last 20 years (from the 1993 album, Modern Life Is Rubbish). I've not played it in ages, and this has just inspired me to put it on!

Not a serious music fan then....:))

The Kinks.

Squeeze (esp Up the Junction)

Amy Winehouse

Madness

The Clash

And if you're brave enough to admit to Girls Aloud you should probably consider the Sugabages while you're at it!

for starters. Still thinking though....

Oh we appreciate it, we really do....And for keeping P+B for another couple of years!!

Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street obviously (although I don't agree with the lyric).

Noel Gallagher's latest album is pretty good although not esp 'London'.

Thanks everyone... keep them coming.

As I started searching fro some of these songs a suggestion from Apple popped up for "Essential London" that had a 75 song setlist that also gave me some good thoughts.

Oh difficult question... My 2 favourite bands, Take That and Muse are both british but neither are from London, though Take did record a live album at Abbey Road studios&both band played Wembley Stadium

Ah the band Athlete is from Depford, London, and I first heard their song Chances on a fab DrWho episode.

Ask and Wikipedia is sure to deliver...(from the obvious "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" to the well not at all ridiculous but stretching it..."A Day in the Life" from the Beatles with its reference to the Albert Hall) …wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_about_Lond…

Thanks for asking this question, I might just compile my own list (sans Girls Aloud though ;) )
