I see that Brighton has a Marks and Spencer store in Brighton. Are the prices in these kinds of shops the same as in London? Do they sell the same sort of things, albeit perhaps a more limited selection?

Apart from items on sale M&S prices are consistent throughout the UK
You can explore on-line what stores like M&S sell. Prices will normally be the same as in the stores, unless shown as a 'web only' price.
The only stores where you get price differences are the supermarkets who do not have all the special offers in their smaller convenience food stores.
I've been to the M&S in Brighton! :)
Thought you wanted to talk about shopping in The Lanes....LOL!
I thought there was some good deals in The Lanes and it was easier to navigate than shopping in London. But I was buying antique prints, not clothes.
M&S is good for picking up food.
Thanks everyone! I will be checking out The Lanes but it's good to know that if I pop into M&S and see something I like that the price will be the same elsewhere.
The same but less selection, so not really worth making a bee-line for the big stores in Brighton if you have access to them in London, better to look at the boutiques and independents. The North Laines some interesting places I agree, depending on your taste, some real bargains of comparible quality with big brands IME but you have to find it amongst a lot of tat too ;-).
