Rare night away from the kids..

Hi All,

Myself and my wife are heading over to Bristol from Dublin for a night away on Saturday 18th of this month.

We are looking for some recommendations on firstly a place to stay perhaps with a pool, that wont break the bank.. Nice places to visit in the city during the day as we ramble around. Maybe open top bus tour might give us a feel for the place?

Also a nice restaurant for later that night and a bar to finish off. We're both in our early thirties so nothing to mental!

Shop around for the best deal you can get... Marriot Royal or Marriot City, The Thistle Grand, Jotel Du Vin, The Brigstow or the brand new Radison Blu... Holland House would be one step down but still very nice... then there are a dozen of the chain hotels in and around the central area.

A ferryboat trip around the floating harbour is better than a bus ride... you can find a guided walk I posted in the things to do section that should prompt a few ideas.

Cheers Shoestring, I think Radisson might be a runner, and boat trip sounds good.

The Mrs. likes cemeteries so Arnos Vale looks good. Are these places within distance of each other?

Thanks for feedback.

Everything is easily walkable around the central area because it is built around the floating harbour...so nice and flat. Once you go outside the central area Bristol becomes very hilly. A day rider bus ticket at £4 will get you anywhere and all the buses run to and from the centre... Arnos Vale is cool and is just a couple of bus stops from Temple Meads Train Station on the buses heading up Bath Road. Personally I would enjoy the walk there, maybe check out St Mary Redcille (the 'fairest parish church in all England' according to Elizabeth 1st) with a couple of great stories about the graveyard there.... and then over the river, past 3 lamps junction and up the slope to Arnos Vale... then catch a bus back into the centre.
