Destination Expert   What's this?
for Warsaw

The number shown for calls from abroad is 0044 333 321 0101 so dialling 0333 321 0101 might work.

You'll definitely get to speak to someone as I've just read that is also the number for <For comments or complaints about our service>

The Mercure Holland House Hotel has a spa and is very central.

You may want to look at the Thermae Bath spa as a day trip from Bristol.

hi

Thanks for all your comments, Bristol Tourist Board have sent me a list of hotels and B&B's, they recommend Clifton , using a no 8 or 9 bus to get in and out of Bristol, visiting Bristol by day and eating at Clifton at night.

Any help, thinking that maybe right in the centre maybe to noisey at night.

All help and opions sought as i know nothing of Bristol.

Hi,

The Holiday Inn Bristol City Centre www.hibristolcity.co.uk (Bristol's newest hotel) is in a good location for visiting Clifton and the nightlife, but the nightlife is not directly outside the hotel, so you shouldn't have any problems with noise.

Is staying at Clifton maybe a better option than central Bristol.

Tourist board accommodation list is very comprehensive but am still confused on we're to stay.

Was looking for a 3 star plus hotel B&B in a central area with either free or reasonably priced parking. Not on a busy road or next to nightclubs and bars.

Looking to go first weekend in Febuary so will need to decide soon.

Thanks

Clifton is traditionally the posh part of the city where all the wealthy merchants built their grand houses high on the hill away from the noise and smell of the harbourside where their trade was done. Over the past 300-600 years things have changed quite a lot, the harbourside is full of very desirable apartments and leisure boats and Clifton is a mix of posh people and students. The restaurant prices in Clifton are still high and the central area far more diverse. The city centre nightlife is really about very late night on Fridays and Saturdays and unless you are planning on being there after 11pm or hanging out of your hotel window after midnight you will probably never know it is happening.

Car parking is certainly an issue worth negotiating from the outset wherever you stay. Personally I would find 1/2 hour to catch and ride a bus each way a bit of a pain but I also remember some of my happiest holiday memories being riding on local buses with the local people. A day-rider ticket is excellent value and could take you anywhere in the city and people are quite good at helping you with directions. Virtually every bus heads in and out of the city centre like the spokes on a wheel, most run every 15-30 minuets.

In short.... personally I would go for the best deal on a hotel preferably within walking distance of the city centre. I always liked what is now the Marriot City on Castle Park... it has a cute little round pool and sauna and was the hotel of choice for visiting actors and performers so I never knew who might be joining me in the pool or sharing a lift. I don't know what is on offer at the Brigstow but it is nicely located right on the old Bristol Bridge (not the clifton suspension bridge) and very close to the centre but not on top of it. The Thistle Grand and Marriot Royal along with the Hotel Du-Vin are the top 3... and probably the most expensive... but you might get a deal.

Free parking in central Bristol is going to be VERY difficult. Most places (particularly in Clifton) require resident permits. As for where to stay - depends on what type of hotel you're after. Most of the larger national chain hotels can be found in the centre. Many of the hotels in Clifton are likely to be smaller boutique hotels, more of a mixed bag. I've been into a few that look very nice. Others, I would avoid.

Also - If you are driving, it might be worth considering Cadbury House in Congresbury for your spa visit, isn't too far out of Bristol.

Thanks

We are still in two minds what to do, my wife has limited mobility due to a knee problem. Wanted to stay in central Bristol but am concerned about noise plus as I see parking is horrendously expensive.

We have looked at out lying areas think maybe Clifton maybe the better choice.

Any help is appreciated
