Hi there
I can't recall what they used to be called, but you can still get a decent view of the old Severn Bridge from "Severn View" services, this is now the M48 but used to be the old M4 when this was the only bridge across. It's the new bit of the M4 that crosses the new Severn Bridge - there are no services on the England side, and the closest on the Welsh side are at Magor, whether there's much of a view from there I don't know as I've never pulled over into them
Brilliant I will put that in the Sat Nav.Thank You for your Help
You can walk across - or part way - if you wish
There's no view of the bridge from Magor services - it's in a dip. In fact, there's no view of anything other than the car park, the travel lodge and the petrol station. Exciting, it's not.
I'll make a point of never stopping there then, thanks...:0)
An nice spot for viewing both the Severn bridges is the Black Rock picnic site at Portskewett.

I was there this Summer, we drove from London England to Portskewett Wales, where my best friend lives. The bridge was quite long I recall and quite modern-ish. My friend said that when it is inclement weather she is scared to cross it as it sways a bit (as they are supposed to I think!) The contributor who mentioned Black rock picnic site is right. Good view from there but it;s not a scenic lovely view, it's somehting to look at! Black Rock park is very natural and walkable though. I spent hours walking there every day of my 10 day visit. Portskewett village had some great little eating places, once I discovered them...A great French baguette sandwich place near the edge of town near the main town bus stop. Mmmm brie on a crusty baguette! It went quite well with my french press coffee too. For the first 2 days of my visit I couldn't find "real" coffee. One breakfast place I went to in town (20 shops total equals "the town") asked me how many scoops I wanted. I had no idea what they meant until I saw the styrofoam cup next to the register full of freeze dried coffee! I got "2 scoops" and hot water and the rest was my coffee! Oh I sure missed Starbucks...for a few days at least!!!! anyway I loved the area, the castle, the gardens with the swans, the walkway along from town to my friends house near the cemetary....I'd love to go again soon if it weren't so far away!!!!! Hello to all my friends in Wales! I sure felt welcome and loved the homemade Welsh Rarebit that the Caldicot pub made for my goodbye party!!! Thaks you for such nice memories!!!
