I'm looking for accomodations near the provincial park so we can go hiking every day without sleeping in a tent, any ideas?

Interested in Thunder Bay?
We'll send you updates with the latest deals, reviews and articles for Thunder Bay each week.
Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is only 50kms east of Thunder Bay so staying in Thunder Bay is probably your best option. However, I believe there is a small motel in Pass Lake which is very close to the park (Grann Motel Hwy 11/17, Pass Lake, Ontario P0T 2M0 (807) 977-2570) I've never stayed there so I have no idea what it is like. You could perhaps find accomodation in Nipigon Ontario which is further east on Hwy 11/17 or you could try Silver Islet B&B 807-628-3520 (maierrobertt@yahoo.com) I've never stayed there either but you could give them a try and see if they are still taking reservations.
I hope you enjoy your visit!!!!
Hi Luchita33,
Welcome to the THUNDER BAY TRAVEL FORUM.
And I see that you are also a Brand NEW Member to TripAdvisor… so a BIG Welcome Aboard as well !!
Your Question has been going unanswered for a while now… so until someone from Northern Ontario shows up (we only have a few Members up that way)… thought I’d see what I could do to give you a hand.
First off… to be clear, I do not live locally… infact like yourself, I reside in Ottawa.
BUT, I do have a lot of experience with using TripAdvisor and knowing how to locate the type of information that you are looking for.
By using GOOGLE MAPS and the SEARCH NEARBY function (or the TripAdvisor MAP Option… found in the HOTEL REVIEWS Section) you can quickly find out if there are accommodations in any area.
My research turned up three options… two of which have entries here on TA…
# 1 - ELDORADO BEACH ON LAKE SUPERIOR B&B = RR # 13 ~ 2845 Eldorado Beach Road, Thunder Bay… they are listed with BBCanada and also have an entry here on TripAdvisor
BBCanada – Eldorado Beach on Lake Superior B&B = http://www.bbcanada.com/eldoradobeach
TA – THUNDER BAY B&Bs – Eldorado Beach on Lake Superior B&B = tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g155017-d658815…
# 2 - PINEVIEW MOTEL = RR # 5 ~ Hwy 11 17, Thunder Bay… ONLY found info about them here on TA
TA – THUNDER BAY HOTELS = tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g155017-d1391419…
And a third from GOOGLE MAPS
# 3 - GRANN MOTEL = 3217 Hwy 11 17, Pass Lake… Unfortunately that is ALL the info that I was able to find
--- --- ---
Must say, based on what I was able to find… the Eldorado Beach B&B looks really nice, and is well located. I have used BBCanada myself before to find accommodations and have been quite pleased… combined with the info / REVIEWS here on TA, I would say it probably is a good bet.
Hope this is helpful,
Cheers!

PS… Here is another idea… like many Canadian Parks and Historic Sites there is a not-for-profit group that is associated with this Provincial Park… The Friends of Sleeping Giant Provincial Park = www.thefriendsofsleepinggiant.ca If you don’t hear much here on TA, you could always contact them and ask for suggestions.
EDIT… What timing, I see while I was drafting my reply that AKEANT of Thunder Bay has also replied… and some of our info is indeed similar (lol, which proves out my research).

Last summer we spent a week in Thunder Bay on holidays. One of the places we visited, of course, was the Sleeping Giant park. We spent half our stay in the city (so we would be close to attractions there) and the other half at Eldorado Beach B&B. We loved this B&B! Staying there is a treat in itself, but it also gets you closer to the Sleeping Giant park than staying in the city. If you're looking for other things to do besides go to Sleeping Giant park that are East / North East of the city, the amethyst mines (Blue Point and Panorama) are out that way, as are Eagle Canyon Adventures, Ouimet Canyon and Dorion. I recommend all of those, and Eldorado Beach B&B is a convenient place to stay to access them. There are a couple of restaurants near this B&B to go to for dinner.
Hello,
I'm going to attend a conference in Thunder Bay this month, and have identified Sleeping Giant a place to visit as I have couple of days off.
The problem is, how can I get to the sleeping giant park? I'm pretty sure there is no any kind of public transport to use. I do not fancy to rent a car just to get there and back (I'll probably travel solo).
How much would a taxi ride from Thunder Bay cost? Is there anyone who might offer boat trips to get there? I've been even thinking about renting a bike and riding there, does it make any sense?
Your right there isn't much in the way of public transit to and from Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Hiring a taxi would be very expensive. The Sibley Peninsula is 52 kilometres long and 10 kilometres wide. The park has over 100 kilometres of trails and over 240 camping spots with the main campground being at Mary Louise Lake. Renting a car would probably be your best bet but you must purchase a Daily Use Permit in order to make use of the trails, picnic areas etc. If you plan on renting a bike however the park is about 50 kilometers from Thunder Bay which would make for a very long day. If you want to private message me and let me know exactly what it is that you are interested in at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park then maybe I can give you some further advice. I'll also check into Boat Charters to see if there are any scheduled charters to Sibley.
