Sports Bars, Restaurants, Etc. for Upcoming 3-Week Biz Trip

Hi, will be travelling this Monday to TB, for a 3-week business trip. Staying near airport on Arthur St. West. Looking to keep myself occupied evenings/wkends. while there.

1. Would like to find a good sports bar with decent pub food & hockey on the TV's. Prefer something FAIRLY close to my hotel, so don't spend a ton of $ on cabs.

2. Looking for decent non-chain restaurants. French, Italian, as well as any style casual places you care to suggest...

3. Good pizza that delivers to my area.

4. The Oupost. Found this place on the internet as a pub that has Buzztime Trivia. Looks to be a campus pub. Are non-students welcome? Is the place a good pub? Any info. appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi SensFanToronto,

Lol… with a name like that I couldn’t let this post continue to go unanswered !!

;-) *wink*

Welcome to the TUNDER BAY TRAVEL FORUM.

Have you checked out the RESTAURANT REVIEWS here on TA? (Button to the left of this screen).

I was very quickly able to find two spots that might fit your needs (to be clear though, I’m only going by what was posted here on TA… and other info I was able to gather via the Net)… as it has been quite awhile since I was in Thunder Bay.

Both of these spots are close to your Hotel and seem to have a loyal local following of Fans elsewhere on the Internet (so other social networking, Restaurant Review sites, etc)… use GOOGLE to learn more.

Q # 1 – SPORTS BAR = Chicago Joe’s for a decent Sports Bar with good pub fare (Wings, Ribs etc) and beer. Located in the Victoria Inn at 555 Arthur Street West. Ranked on TA at # 28 out of 171 Restaurants for Thunder Bay and has 4 HOOTS for TA Member Satisfaction.

Victoria Inn (Chicago Joe’s) = www.vicinn.com/index.php…

TA REVIEW – Chicago Joe’s = tripadvisor.ca/ShowUserReviews-g155017-d7695…

Q # 2 – NON-CHAIN = Naxos Bar and Grill appears to be a great Greek Restaurant with a variety of other offerings (Breakfast?). Located at 610 Arthur Street. Today, ranked on TA at # 19 out of 171 Restaurants for T-Bay it has 4 HOOTS for TA Member Satisfaction.

TA REVIEW – Naxos Bar and Grill = tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g155017-d88…

Figure based on what I've read both of these are at least worth a "look see".

So I hope this is (somewhat) helpful… and by giving this topic a ^bump^ up the FORUM List, that hopefully some T-Bay Locals will now see it and drop by with some other suggestions.

Cheers!

Hi, hopefully I can answer some of your questions:

1. Another good sports bar is Daytona's. The food is pretty good and they have TVs all over the bar. It isn't real close to your hotel but it's not on the other side of town either, it's kind of in the middle along with Montana's, Applebees etc.

2. As far as non-chain restaurants go there aren't too many in your area. There is Northern Lights which has pretty good food, Momma Alfa's which is Italian, we don't have any french restaurants but a new restaurant called 5Forks is getting pretty good reviews. It again is not real close. Of course there is the Hoito which has Finnish and Canadian cuisine and has the greatest Finn pancakes.

3. We have the usual Pizza Chains that are located in the area of your hotel. But Up-In-Smoke which is close by used to make a really good pizza but I haven't been there for awhile so I'm not sure if they deliver.

4. As for the Outpost you don't have to be a student to go there. It is the usual University Crowd but can get really packed if they have a concert event.

Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy our city.
