Crown Land/Free Camping near Thunder Bay

I'm driving across Canada and anticipate I will be stopping near Thunder Bay, I was wondering if anyone knows of crown land or good place for free camping not far off the transcanada that I can pitch a tent for the night, get a few hours sleep before continuing on my way. Thanks for your help.

Sorry can't help much with crown land or free camping. I've lived in the Thunder Bay area all my life but I am not aware of any specific areas where you can camp free that are close to the TransCanada Highway. However a cheap alternative (I think camping is $13.00 per night for singles or $20.00 for family) is Longhouse Village. Their website is www.thunderbayhostel.com, so perhaps you could email them and confirm their rates if you are interested.

You can contact the local MNR office and ask them what sites would be suitable.

Any place along the highway that is flat enough to put up your tent will do . . . if the land near by has no house or is not actually marked as a provincial park or other type of private property, it is Crown land. You'll be surprised how much there is. Your best bet close to Thunder Bay is to go North on HWY 527 towards Armstrong a little ways.
