Pictou, New Glasgow or Antigonish for 2 nights lodging?

Hi,

We're a couple in our early 60s, staying in the Northumberland area for 2 nights in early Sept. We're trying to decide where to stay. We think it's between Pictou, New Glasgos and Antigonish.

We like quaint settings, strolling amongst shops, casual dining, and would love to find some local theater and/or Scottish music.

Thanks for any help!

As a B&B operator, I hope that no matter which area of Nova Scotia you decide on, please check our provincial B&B association's website, www.nsbedandbreakfast.com ,for quality B&B accommodations.

Antigonish may be difficult to book in early September as parents bring their St.FX students back for the year. Pictou's historic waterfront is a great strolling area & generally has a vibrant music scene all year. New Glasgow also has a scenic riverfront walking area. The two towns are so close that you can see both in a day. Re dining: we go to Andre's Restaurant (or Andy's as it is called by some of the locals!) on the Main Street in Stellarton whenever we are in the Pictou area, about a 40 minute drive from Truro.

Pictou has a nice waterfront area with some great shops and restaurants/pubs, and a walking trail. I am not sure what type of accommodations you are looking for, but there are lots of B&Bs/Inns in Pictou.

New Glasgow also has a nice downtown area, and there is a walking trail that runs along the west side of the river. Accommodations in New Glasgow aren't quite as central to the downtown area as they are in Pictou (wouldn't be walking distance).

You might want to contact the DeCoste Centre in Pictou (www.decostecentre.ca) or Glasgow Square in New Glasgow (www.glasgowsquare.com) to see what upcoming events are scheduled. The DeCoste Centre has a "Summer Sounds" program with evening music, but I am not sure of the dates for it.

Hope that helps some! If you have any other questions, just ask!

Thank you both! Any B&Bs/inns that you particularly like in either Pictou or NG?

In Egerton: Sea Kindly B&B (www.visitseakindly.com)

Hi,

Another option for finding accomodations is going to novascotia.com/en/…default.aspx and selection the area you are looking for. With the search results you can also get the star ratings that the properties would have (If applicable).

Have a good day!
