 Jobs in Banff in Oktober/November

Hi there,

Recently I have received my Canadian working permit and I am now figuring out when and where to go.

Banff really appeals to me. I've been there 10 years ago and I loved the place. Nothing beats the Rockies in my opinion. Great place to work, play and enjoy the outdoors for some months.

I'm not quite sure when I should come to Banff. I have read that September is a good time to look for employment as a lot of students have to go back to university. This makes sense to me. However, do you think there would be enough employment during the slow months between the summer and winter season?

Thanks in advance.

The end of October and November are the slowest part of the year for tourism in the Rockies - lots of people in hospitality jobs are laid off or take vacation time at that time of year. You never know, you may get lucky and find something, but if you arrive at that time of year, I'd come prepared with enough money to live on until ski season gets going.

If you were thinking about employment at one of the 3 ski hills, this is something you can usually organize in advance. It may be possible to at least organize and interview in advance. What you do need at this time of year is a large sum of money to tide you over, while you're waiting, job hunting and the money is flowing from your account.

An alternative is to come in early February. The winter season is just getting started, the snow is better, there's less competition for jobs and accommodation. Banff's winter is so long that there is frequent job turnover. Companies are also looking to pick up an extra employee as they gear up for the busy winter season. It's a legitimate alternative.

As well, the town of Banff has a good educational section on their website about the realities of working in Banff.
