 Douglas Fir vs Hidden Ridge

My husband and I are traveling with our two year old daughter in late May to Banff. We'd like to stay in lodging that has a kitchen or kitchenette so we can do some cooking in the room. We also prefer a room that has a separate bedroom.

We're looking at the one bedroom condos at Douglas Fir and Hidden Ridge. Both are close in price. Any comments or recommendations between the two? Is one newer/cleaner than the other?

Both these hotels seem the same distance from town. Is it an easy walk? Would you recommend a place in town over this location?

Thanks.

Greetings KDK

Both Douglas Fir Resort and Chalets and Hidden Ridge Resort offer great condo accommodation Banff. They are outside the centre of town and the walk would probably be a bit too much for a two year old (especially going uphill to go back to either property from town) but there is the Roam Public Transit that travels from the Tunnel Mountain area of Banff to the town centre and back.

One of the main differences between the two properties is that Douglas Fir Resort has waterslides and a Kids Play Zone indoor playground on site. The waterslides are available to non-guests for a fee but the Play Zone is for Douglas Fir Resort guests only. Hidden Ridge Resort has a nice outdoor hot tub and sauna.

With a two year old I would go for Douglas Fir. The kids playground is pretty cool!

Thanks for the replies. Between the two properties - is one more updated/renovated than the other. The photos of Douglas Fir make the rooms look dated while Hidden Ridge look newer. But maybe that's just good photography.

The Douglas Fir has just had a complete reno of their Pools and Play area. Also worth mentioning are the rather spectacularily located cabins that are at the Douglas Fir with one of the best views in town.

The Hidden Ridge has just wrapped up a complete re-design, renovation and construction project of their facility and rooms.

i've stayed at douglas fir several times. for convenience, with a cihild, you might want to stay in the main building for easy access to the pool/play area. however, their individual loft chalets have the best views and privacy. it's a pretty long walk to town...especially coming home as it's uphill. you would definitly need a stroller. as mentioned there is a bus available but if you want to walk to everywhere in town, you might want to consider a place in town. one place i like "in town" that i like is the bow view lodge. everything is within walking distance but it's not on "main street". they have units that have a mini fridge, microwave, etc which is convenient. it is very basic but reasonably priced and clean. try to get a room with a river view.
