We are planning to do the Rocky Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Banff. Do they ever offer discount tickets or promo codes? So far I haven't found anything online.
Is gold class service worth the extra $$s?

I have never heard of the Rocky Mountaineer offering discounts, other than possibly early season or late season discounts to boost traffic. It's a luxury tour train service that only runs seasonally, and seems to be in high demand. (It is heavily promoted overseas, especially Australia and the UK.)
you might look at Silver leaf which is a cross between red and gold leaf.
Most of their deals tend to be for locals. But before you book, I would first investigate whether or not their labor dispute has been settled with their onboard attendants (who have been locked-out of their jobs for the past 7 months with NO negotiation from the company). Sure the trains ran last summer, but they were run with scab replacement workers who did not, and do not, have the experience of the trained attendants (91% of the real attendants have a minimum of 6 years experience with the company). Last year unsuspecting guests had to cross a picket-line to have their "trip of a lifetime" as the company neglected to advise most of the labor dispute siting "business as usual", which of course it wasn't.

Thanks for the tips.
rmemployee...I'm planning to go in May, so I'd hope any disputes were sorted by then....but I just realised you said that it's been ongoing for 7 months already! Where could I go to find out the latest on the situation? The RM website isn't going to advertise that fact.

Hi Chuckles082;
I would think that the less that "family friendly" language you used in your previous post, had more to do with you post being removed, than anything else.

"My posts are removed as trip advisor is mediated by those companies that pay."
That is the biggest load of rubbish I have read this week. The post above at #3 is borderline political and may be removed as well.

coming from my point of view from someone who has done the RM trip at least 35 times and 6 times since the 'strike' I can tell you that on some trips it seems to have made little difference. While there were an occassional outstanding 'old' employee I also encountered a lot of mediocre ones. Some of the new workers bring a sense of enthusiasm I never experienced from old workers. Yes I've had a few bad ones however the guests did not notice much difference as they have nothing to compare it to.
In regards to negative posts. I think its highly incorrect to have picketers encouraging people to specifically write tripadvisor telling them they had a horrible time. Some reviews were writtten more from a labor perspective than from an actual travelers travel experience.
