There are departure fees but i dont rememebr how much (i only came back a month ago) apologies brain obviswously not working.

Best place to buy from is in the airport on your way home - cheap cheerful and not included in your luggage allowance.

2. Re: Fees

I have never had to pay an arrival/departure tax at the airport. If there is Im assuming it is included with the ticket purchase. I've never seen anyone having to pay at the airport either. As for the rum, I personally would buy it at the airport.

The departure fees are included in your tickets. I agree with the others. The best place to get your rum is at the airport on the way home. Have fun.

Thanks for the advise on the Rum......we have always travelled to the Dominican Republic and the last place you want to buy your Rum is at the airport. Funny eh?

cherie07, hello fellow maritimer-you are just across the Bay of Fundy from us in the Annapolis Valley, NS!

For Canadian departures whether you book a packaged holiday or air only, the Jamaica tax/fees are included.

Enjoy Jamaica, we always do!

Hey Denise, we went to your area of the Maritimes for our vacation last summer. Stayed at the Digby Pines for a couple of nights, did some whale watching from Brier Island and went to Annapolis Royal for a night. beautiful country side

Hi Cherie07

I buy mine at the distillery on my excursion " Appleton , YS Falls and Black River". This goes into my checked luggage.

I then buy some at the airport on the way home as hand luggage.

DO NOT buy at the so called Duty Free outlets.

Enjoy your holiday and the rum.

FYI to all that are purchasing liquor at the airport:

If you are travelling to a hub city like Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, etc., you will be required to clear customs at that airport, then re-check your luggage to your final destination.

IF YOU HAVE CARRIED ALCOHOL ONBOARD FROM JAMAICA, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PUT IT INTO YOUR CHECKED BAGGAGE. YOU CANNOT TAKE IT IN THE PASSENGER CABIN ON THE SECOND FLIGHT!

Sorry to shout about this, but I have seen many a person have to give up their liquor at the TSA checkpoint after they have re-checked their luggage and forgot to put it inside. I would hate to see it happen to someone that does not know about this policy.

Safe travels to all!

Tony
