 Trips from Runaway Bay

Just booked RDFC for February 23! I know there is some mixed feedback on the resort but I've done my research and for $1,000 all in for a week in Jamaica from Toronto, I don't think we'll be complaining.

This will be my 5th time to the island. I'm travelling with two other female companions who have not been to the Caribbean or an AI before. I want to show them the real Jamaica. I've been to Rolling River, Black River, Pelican Bar and YS Falls. Too far from Runaway Bay? I've only stayed in Ironshore, MoBay and Lucea before so not that familiar with the area. I'd like to take them to Negril and I know Rick's Cafe is a long drive and touristey but still think it's worth it?

Are there any other trips closer to Runaway Bay? What about the Bob Marley tour? Anyone know a good driver? I've heard Reggae Tours are highly recommended. I'd prefer to hire our own driver than take a designated tour.

What about night life in Ochi or Runaway Bay? Too far to go to Pier One on a Friday night?!

Using the search function will get you lots of info.

There are many things to do , excursions to go on in the area. A trip to Nine Mile to See Bob is a great thing to do and gets you to have a view of the more rural areas of the island. For guides and tour companies, only one can do it all... Peat Taylor Tours. www.ochoriosjamaicatours.com , they have the info on everything from new spots coming to be attractions to where and when the parties are. Get in touch with PJ and Oniel ( Peat Taylor's sons) they have the info on the parties and happenings around the area. Also look into the off the track things like blue holes in the area, fire water, along with many others. Link up with the Taylors you wont be sorry.

Have a blast

Another recommendation for Peat Taylor Tours. We were in Runaway Bay January 2012 and had PJ as a driver for 3 days. Couldn't have been happier! We traveled with our 2 young children, so the things that we visited were more "family" activities which may not be what you're looking for. But...

Green Grotto Caves were just down the road and a great tour.

Dunns River was a great hike.

Irie Blue Hole was gorgeous

Have fun and enjoy the trip!

Cambridge I will see you there on the 23rd at RDFC! we must be on the same flight if you are leaving out of Toronto. We are hiring a private driver to take us on the Bob Marley tour. I like the idea of not having to run on a schedule.

For the past 6 years i have used the same driver Andrew Moodie - if you search on here you will find plenty of recommendations for him

Trips all depend on what you want to do and how much time you have to spare.

If you want to go to Negril thats obviously a whole days trip. So if i was you i would do. Dunns River first thing in the morning, and from there carry on up to Nine Mile and see the home of Bob Marley - on the way back down maybe stop at Brownstown and have a wonder round the market, then stop off at a Jerk Centre for some good food. by combining it all into one day - you save on cost and also time.

Andrew Moodies details are....

Tel: 0018764046396

Email: moodietransportation@gmail.com

If you drop him a text asking for a call back with some prices and ideas - that would probably best.

Hi Milton! Sure we will see you at the swim up bar if not on the flight! There will be 4 Canadian women with British accents so you won't be able to miss us:) Only 14 more sleeps! Did you book an oceanfront room? Have you already booked your driver for the Bob Marley Tour? Not done that one before and definitely sounds good. Yes much prefer hiring our own driver and having flexibility to stop along the way, etc.

Thanks Birmingham for information about tours and driver. Will check Andrew out. There is so much to do and so little time:) We also love doing catamaran (booze cruise?) type of tours...know if there is anything like that off the resort or close by?

http://www.paulsjamaicatours.com/ I hope this link works. It is a good site for ideas on things to do. We are using this man in March for the first time.

Were here at the moment and used Paul Williams, would def reccomend.

We did into the mountains into Browns town and Orange county, we went to lobster dave for seafood, went to a local school, enchanted gardens, dunns river and the blue hole.

We stopped at local beaches and in the mountains for photos. cotchies for jerk is a must.

We paid 120usd for a full day and 60usd for a half day

Yes there is a boat party trip in Ochi- not sure on the full details, check the tour desk at your hotel for info (you can then book this with a private driver but they will have the tour info)

if im correct its something like - you get the boat then you go Dunns River and then basically party eat and drink on the boat for a few hours.

for Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay

The catamaran goes from ocho rios port and takes you to Dunns where you can snorkel then climb the falls and finish off going back on the boat and having a drink.. It can be booked at the resort or you can go along to ocho rios beach and book there but that will be pot luck. It may be full so best to book at the hotel.

If you take a trip to nine mile you can stop at st anns bay which is a nice little town and buy some goodies. You dont get so hassled here as you do at ocho rios. Also Browns town is a nice little town to stop at. Browns town is bigger than St Anns bay. Check out the patties they do at both towns tasty..

Going up to Nine mile you will see some stunning views, stop and take photos.

Around and about runaway bay there is also Dolphin cove, Green grotto caves, Horse riding,

I also have used Moodie many times for all our trips. Near and far, day or night. Have a super time

The luminous Lagoon trip is about $15.00 PP and you really should not miss doing this!

Dunns River Falls entry fee I think is something like $20.00 PP. I would suggest you use Devon Hyman as your driver. His number in Jamaica is 876-776-1087. Gregg w/ Reggae Tours is also great but he has the set prices etc. Devon you might be able to haggle some more.

Martha Brae River Rafting is $30.00 PP and is another WONDERFUL thing to see and do. Once again I would use Devon.

Outameni Museum is a great culture experience where they do live reenactments of events in Jamaica history. It used to be free but donations are accepted. Not sure if it is still set up like this or not. Worth checking out!

On Wednesdays you have The "Bend Down" Market in Falmouth. This is a large flea market where the locals shop. Lots of vendors where you can find just about anything and everything. Not really a tourist affair but everyone is welcome. We never miss going when we are in the area.

Try to keep an eye on the cruise ship schedule for both of the ports, Ochi and Falmouth. If you go into either town I would try to avoid the cruise ship days for less crowds and better pricing.

We are soooo looking forward to your posts when you get back. Hope you have a FABULOUS time!!
