 Expedia Travel Insurance

My wife and I are leaving for Jamaica in a few weeks and i had a quick question about insurance...

We purchased travel insurance through Expedia to cover if we needed to cancel for any reason (we always buy it, never use it, but thats good news).... However I was wondering if anyone has ever had to use it for medical reasons?

I'd love to know what the experience was like and what the costs were. God forbid we ever had to use it, but I want to make sure it is at least a reasonable amount of coverage and that I don't need anything in addition to it.

Hopefully I never have to worry about this, but i'd love to hear stories!

Having had a heart attack here in Negril almost a year ago...I will only say 'get the insurance'!!!!

I am glad I had it!!!

Better to have it and not need it...than to need it and not have it.

I've had no experience with Expedia insurance but have had with 2 others. I normally don't buy it but recently had to cancel a trip due to a death in the family. For some reason, maybe because it was planned a year in advance, I bought it this time. Glad we did and the process was pretty easy and painless. I'll probably always purchase it now.

I just purchased Expedia's ins. also for an upcoming Negril trip. Having read the whole thing, the medical seemed pretty decent.

My suggestion is to know what if any deductible is payable by you or if you pay in full first and then claim back from the insurance company. Might need to "up" your credit card limit!

Take care

As a previous post stated, he suffered a heart attack there. Heaven forbid he suffered a fatal heart attack, you need to have a comprehensive travel policy that pays in the event you need to repatriate remains to the US.

We purchase a policy that includes medical, dental, medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.

www.squaremouth.com is a great travel insurance website where you can compare the coverage and price.

Travel ins for international travel? Don't leave home without! Reasons: 1) Don't expect your insurance carrier to cover you out of the country, 2) the availability/quality of care varies tremendously in most countries, 3) you can be denied care if unable to pay up front, 4) an accident/illness while out of the country can quickly mount to thousands of dollars, and 5) accidents are the leading cause of death among tourists. So be prepared for the unexpected and pay a little $ up front for a decent policy for peace of mind. Squaremouth and Insuremytrip are great sites, have used them both.

I completely agree with the above posts. You need to read ALL of the fine print and make sure you have enough coverage for EVERYTHING.

We have Federal BC/BS as our primary coverage and Medicare SSI coverage as secondary. I called to see if we were covered for emergency medical evacuation. The EXACT words she said was "do you know how expensive that is" I responded "YES I do that is why I am checking our coverage"

We had no coverage for this with two of the best and biggest insurance companies. We always make sure we are covered for this. If you have a policy that covers just about everything except this you can pick up a policy from either

www.squaremouth.com or www.insuremytrip.com for as little as $40.00 that covers $1M for emergency medical evacuation, medical, remains etc. Please make sure you have this. We all work hard to build our estates. It would be horrible to lose everything we have worked for because of one incident.

Bright Blessings for a long and prosperous life.
