What is a good resort to stay at for a solo traveller and to meet and mingle with other single people? Do any hotels and/or AI's in Negril (or elsewhere in Jamaica) cater to singles...single rooms and minimal supplement fees, etc?

The reality is that there just aren't many single travellers at all. Most everyone travels as a couple or as friends, family etc.
That said Breezes Runaway Bay and The Jewel Dunns River are both excellent adult-only resorts that do cater to singles as well as couples.
In Negril your best bet is Breezes Grand Negril or perhaps Grand Pineapple.
Blessings and respect to you.

Been to both of Jamaicasteve's recommendations in Negril and met singles at each however my vote would be for Grand Pineapple if you prefer a smaller and friendlier resort with an excellent location on 7 mile.
there are more single travelers in Negril than anywhere else in Jamaica......and maybe the Caribbean.......
trust mi as I've been going der mostly single for over 30 years now.......
best place for singles on the cliffs is SeaStar Inn........
other places for singles to stay on da Cliffs are like Catcha Gardens, Oasis, Xtabi and even SamSara.........
on the beach the best AI for singles is by far Grand Pineapple........
but you can do okay at Merril's too but just a lot of Europeans der........
on the beach Bar B Barn is very nice for singles..........
also on the beach places like Sunset on da Beach, Travelers, Shields and Negril Treehouse are all great.........
on the beach road you have some good choices too............
JahB's is excellent at $35 a night if you don't mind staying in a board cottage ...... it has bathroom and refrig and fans......no A/C
all the places above are guest friendly........which is a good thing if you are single.........
if you arrive single in Negril........you don't have to be single very long if you don't want to........lol

Lot's of singles travel. And the number is growing.
I have traveled solo many times and actually had my best experiences on vacation as a solo traveler. I'm in a relationship with a lovely lady but she is not a traveler, so she stays home while I go.
I think she enjoys my time away. It gives her a break. LOL!
The Merrill's have solo priced rooms of I remember correctly...
Hedo has a "roommate" program where they will pair you with a roommate of the same sex if available... You pay the double occupancy rate and if they are unable to match you with a roommate (which is not uncommon) you get the room to yourself...
Hedo is not everyone's cup of tea and Merrills is very basic, but they are the two negril AI options that I can think of that directly accommodate singles in their pricing modela

Pineapple seems to be a good option, too. Checked rates, seems like they have substantially reduced rates for singles after doing price quotes (something in the order of $1,100 for $1,900 for a room quoted for 2 people)
Thanks all!
Isn't the point of going on vacation alone to be alone? Are you people just looking to hook up. In that case then just go to the club and meet a locale OT go bar hopping on 7 mile beach?
If you are looking for a good price, may also want to look into Apple Vacations. They do the 5 Square Apple Deal to Negril, and you will end up at Riu Negril, but you could get a good price. Riu Negril does have a nightclub. However, it does lack the more Jamaican feel you would get at Merrils or the Grand Pineapple.
I agree about seeing an increase in single travelers. More and more people are doing it. Do a google search on the topic and there are numerous articles talking about the increase number of single travelers, especially woman. Divorced, unmarried, and widowed travelers are on the increase, with the numbers getting higher each year. Long gone are the days of not doing something just because you do not have a partner to do it with you !
People have different reasons for going alone. No doubt some go to hook up.
Personally, my best vacations to Jamaica have been solo because of a few reasons. The most memorable was renting a car and driving around the entire island. Stopping to eat, sleep and explore as "I" wanted. I had such a great time doing that that I decided to return to do it again. This time with a family member and her friend. While I was gung-ho about it all, they wanted to go back to lay on the beach shortly after our road trip began. I complied with their wishes (reluctantly) and swore to myself that in the future, I will travel on my own (which I have done with no regrets).
