Negril Forum: Staying at Couples Negril, want to see Floyds Pelican Bar?

Actually we were also supposed to do YS Falls along with Black River and Floyds Pelican Bar. Ran out of time. Floyds is quite an interesting place to chill. Ended up having lunch at restaurant recommended by Kingsley on the Black River. Prices were very reasonable and he is fast in getting back to you with info.

Is the Pelican Bar worth the trip? Oh yeah. We booked Talk of the Town Tours for our trip and included YS Falls and a lunch stop at Middle Quarters as well as the Pelican Bar. What a great day we had, definitely a bucket list destination.

You can always book a tour with a guide and then post on TA or the Couples boards about your dates in order to get a group together. The more people in your group the lower the cost per person. We had 8 people in our group so we didn't need to add anyone on, but the cost was very reasonable. Of course you can always do a private tour for 2 if you want some alone time as well.

I would recommend Rocky's Taxi service. It is about a 45 minute drive from Negril to the Pelican Bar at least. Yes, I think it is worth it if you appreciate a hut with a lot of culture made of scrap mango wood and bamboo sitting out in the middle of the sea. If you like a "nice" place, this is not it but to me it is definitely worth it to experience and see it. The food was tasty and Rocky called ahead and put in our order (fish or lobster) which was ready when we got there. The boat ride from the beach over to the Bar is also a little bit of an adventure as it is a very old boat and no life vests were given to us but the water is very shallow the whole way over. Pretty neat place with a lot of culture!

We plan on making it a must trip while in Negril, too. Nothing but amazing comments about it on TA.

Here's another question for those that know...is this something that can be booked while in Negril for a day or two ahead of time, or do you suggest booking with a driver weeks in advance?

You don't need to book it weeks in advance, but be aware that if you book a few days out your driver of choice may have other clients that day so you may have to go with another driver. But with the list of drivers available and the glowing reviews they receive, I don't think you should worry.

A day or two ahead of time is sufficient normally.

MTBanana we went to the Pelican Bar with Joe Cool Taxi And Tours and it took us more than 45mins from Negril. Is there another way to drive.

Pelican Bar is 2 hrs from Negril.
