Negril Forum: Sandals or Secrets

Secrets or Couples.

Between Sandals and Secrets I personally would choose Sandals, though not all Sandals resorts are created equal. If I were going to stay at a Sandals it would be Negril or Whitehouse.

But I stay at Couples when booking an AI in Jamaica, which I doubt would meet your definition of "upscale". If you are looking for luxury rooms and lots of marble and glitz, room service, etc. then IMO Iberostar Grand Rose Hall would be worth a look.

Really two different resort vibe: Sandals is an AI while Secrets is essentially just cabins, and it has no eateries so you have to visit what is offered in Negril.

Other options would be Couples Negril (located on Bloody Bay) and Couples Swept Away (located on Long Bay).

You will find just as many folks liking Sandals vs. one of the two Couples.

Do consider putting Breezes Grand Negril (Bloody Bay) on your list. Very upscale many have posted.

I must be confused. Isn't the only Secrets in Jamaica in Montego Bay...not Negril? And I've never heard that Secrets is just cabins.

I've not stayed at Secrets so can't offer you a comparison, but have been to all Sandals resorts. As caviargal mentioned, not all Sandals are created equal. In my opinion, the best of Sandals in Jamaica is Sandals Whitehouse on the south coast.

Secrets St. James and Wild Orchid are brand new (last year) and are in Montego Bay.

TrueRevelations is a poster on this forum who has been to Secrets and Sandals in Jamaica and could probably give you a good comparison.

Please disregard HedoDiveMaster quote regarding Secrets as he most certainly some how mis-posted in regards to such.

In regards to which is better, well that depends on the individual.

Secrets really only has one resort in JA. It is a two part, two named "shared" resort. Wild orchard is the higher level resort over St James. They are located about 20 minute from the airport. It consist of 4 high rise buildings, Two for each resort section. You can exspect a modern room, moderate food, decent accommodations & good views. Water sports are extra.

Sandals offers seven resorts,Royal Plantation, Negril, White house & Royal Caribbean in Mobay being among the top of the list. You can expect modern to exclusive rooms & accommodations, moderate to excellent food. Over all a more genuine Jamaican feel. Water sports are included at all.

So, since this question was posted on the Negril forum, I assumed you were asking about resorts in Negril rather than MoBay.

If you are looking for a resort in MoBay, then say so and post it on the MoBay forum.

I hope you can see how I was confused by your question as there is both a Sandals and Secrets in Negril.

So if it is MoBay you want to stay in, then ignore my post with my apologies. Hard to tell where it is, but many resorts are on the landing path for Sangster.

Found where Secrets in MoBay is located. Their website show a fabulous resort.

The consideration I present is that it is pretty (read right) adjacent (viewable and noisy) to the normal landing flight path to Sangster. Some small planes you will not hear and the larger AirBus jets will have some noise impact. Sangster works 24/7.
