If in trouble and arrested and in jail contact the Canadian Embassy there as they should be aware of his arrest and being in jail.

He wasn't in trouble with the law so I don't think he is in jail. I did call santo Domingo this a.m and they told me he was back on the resort, but I didn't speak to him directly so I left a message but I also have the name of the person I spoke to there.

Hmmm you didn't speak to him directly but you know he's in trouble.
Before you proceed any further read this and the dozens of other variations of this scenario that happen all the time, all originating from the Dominican Republic.
Exact same thing happened to my grandfather. The location of the "wedding" was Canada but everything else sure rings a bell. They even put his "granddaughter" on the line claiming she had a cold from flying!!!
Very good warnings Eric and Km... wondering if these crooks browse social network sites to get the info needed to pull these scams.
