Guama Forum: Excursions from Los Galeones

I believe I've seen the restaurant on the island, but haven't visited it. Best to ask when you are there. I'm sure it can be arranged.

You're right eeeefarm; it would be best; and I am sure it can be arranged. I was told that it MAY be a part of the Sierra Mar & Los Galeonos and a shuttle may or may not be available. We will definitely get ourselves there, one way or another!

I was hoping that the title "Excursions...," would attract more Santiago/Chivirico/Guama guests with further suggestions as to any other off-beat or unusual trips to take. I think you have stayed at Galeones? Do you have any particular tips or hints that we might find helpful. I know that is a silly question; it appears that you are also a very laid back traveller like ourselves.... sorta go with the flow. Thanks for the reply.

We had lunch there as part of the catamaran snorkelling tour from the Sierra Mar. The food was really good there...snorkelling not so good. The waves on the way there were quite big...I have a fear of the open water so they really bothered me...I mutinied (sp?) and they took me by paddle boat to the road and one of the waiters called his friend with a taxi to take me back to the hotel. It wasnt far from the hotel. Very beautiful spot.

It's been awhile since I was at Los Galeones, and at that time there had been a lot of flooding in the area, so I didn't do very much in the way of excursions. Some day I hope to go back. The food at Los Galeones was the best I have had in Cuba! Perhaps because there were few guests at the time, the chefs seemed to be competing with each other and giving wonderful meals with a gourmet presentation.

Thanks sunnyone & eeeefarm. It is nice to know that other people have seen the location. Sunny: do you know if the SD use Isla Damas on a regular basis? I got the impressionfrom the staff that the place was not accustomed to tourists. Just my impression - we were treated very well and they bent over backwards; that's what made the place so memorable.

Eeeefarm: I didn't think it was that long ago that you were there. However, I think I'm older than you and the memory is going. I thought maybe 2-3 years ago. Your photos and reviews are so riveting - it's like we are THERE!

Thank you both again for your replies and if you do think of anything - please let us know. I think after years and years of visiting Cuba, I have found my truly favourite small home.

I was there in November 2007.

Told you the memory was going. I extended my original guess from 1-2 years to 2-3 years! And it has already been 4 years. Oops.

This is seriously one trip that I am so looking forward too. Family has been telling me to just do it; it has been my dream for at least 7 years - when I first saw a video. Then I actually saw the property and that did it!!! The price was right and the devil on my shoulders aid, "Do it". My practical side said, "Well you have property taxes, Christmas, etc. Do you have to do it now?" I guess we know who won!
