Europe open jaw flight average price?

Europe open jaw flight average price?

I'm looking at buying an open jaw flight for our trip to Europe next year and I've seen them around $1200-1300 via Lufthansa / Air Canada. Its coming through Netherlands and out from Rome. I was wondering if this multi city flight is already worth it or should I wait some more?

I read I should wait about 3-4 months before I fly out. That does apply to multi city flights / open jaw flights too?

I'm afraid there is no magic time to buy or any great secrets.

I'd think $1200 to $1300 is an ok price, you might get it cheaper but probably not much below $1000 although equally it could go a lot higher, think of a number.

What would disappoint you more , buying at $1200/1300 only to see a fare of $1000 later or not buying and seeing fares just increasing meaning having to pay $2000 or postpone the trip because the flight was too expensive.

My only other point is next year is a vague term and specifically when you intend to travel could be a factor in the eternal buy or not conundrum.

I'm leaving second week of April 2016.

I thought 1200 is an okay price as well just want to know the average tickets around that time so I dont hit myself with a hammer if I buy the ticket either too soon or too late. Lol

Buy the tickets when you are happy with the price and don't look again! I don't care what price other people pay, as long as I'm OK with what I paid!

I usually sign up for fare alerts and monitor prices on a site like google flights. $1,200 sounds pretty average to me, but the only way to know it to keep checking the prices.

April is Tulip season in The Netherlands and with easter also around the same time it can be quite expensive to fly at that time of year.

Personally I would never book a flight nearly a year in advance. I would keep an eye on them and book when I thought it was right for me

This is a tricky question. First, the average price is directly related to the oil price for the long distance flights, as fuel surcharge has been a significant part of the cost. As you're aware, the oil price is pretty low this year, so keep that in mind.

In term of openjaw price, I think they're following similar pattern as regular roundtrip. The only difference is that there are more factors that could affect the price as demands for one leg could be quite different than the other.. For example, if the flight to Amsterdam is almost booked out, then the price for that leg might be so much expensively than from Rome. In some case you might be better off buying roundtrip to Rome and buying a separate roundtrip from Rome to Amsterdam or something like that.

Maybe I missed something, are you talking about $1200CAD? If so, I think that is a very good price. Even $1200US would be ok. I don't think they will go down.

It would be helpful to know where the OP is flying from.

Buy when you think the price is right. Accept that you will never get the lowest price. When you buy, do so directly form the airline and not form a third party internet agent. Check regularly once bought to pick up early flight changes.

<<First, the average price is directly related to the oil price >> NO it is not. Ticket pricing is complicated but basically it is driven by demand and supply. That is why there are different price buckets.

Easter 2016 should have no effect, as it's at the end of March. In fact the second week in April, should be relatively low season as it will be after Easter holidays and well before the main Summer season.
