British Airways review

Hi all

I'll add this to the other air review sites but I often like reading other peoples reviews of airlines on here so I thought I'd add my recent flight experience with you

Our flights were Ba15 to singapore/sydney and return on BA16 singapore/heathrow

So we flew on the new 777-300ers my first long haul with 2 engines. Could I notice much difference onboard hmmm if I'm honest not really although the airbus was quieter I'm sure.

Seat

In economy we were really impressed with the legroom, could stretch out my feet ( I'm about 5'10)

Now much has been said about booking seats in advance, I think the price was ÂŁ28 each leg each way. We both agreed we would risk it and while we did get seats together there was very little choice on the first flight and zero choice of movement on the way back.

Very happy we didn't pay for it as that cash came in handy on holiday but something to think about for others. Oh and if you haven't prepaid for seat selection make sure you don't mind travelling at the back of the plane lol

Staff

Have to say I was pretty impressed, almost all staff we personable and friendly. My last flights on this route were with Singapore airlines and while they are very good at their job I found the FAs to be too robotic.

Food and Drink

Ok so the meals are all good size (can only speak for economy) you shouldn't go hungry but the choices were all similar on 4 legs chicken, fish or pasta. I guess only the front of the plane gets beef or pork options. It was tasty enough so can't complain too much it's more personal preference and maybe something I've come to expect having travel with other airlines on this route

Now bfst options on both flights we missed the English bfst option so got the gross omelette with something inside, still not sure what it was. On the last leg we didn't even get a choice so I'm guessing all the English bfsts went first. ( I'll never know why airlines don't mix in more non veggie bfsts it's a common complaint I see a lot)

Free alcohol offered but not as giving as singapore or virgin were in the past

Entertainment

No complaints here at all a great and easy to work with system and loads of selection too

Flight times

Few delays due to de icing at Heathrow but overall all on time.

I will add we both agreed we wouldn't book these flights again as they are almost too direct, it's a 90 minute stopover but with the delay to the first leg we literally had 20 minutes before having to go through another security checkpoint to our departure lounge. On the way back it was only 30 minutes. Again just a personal preference with the length of flying time we felt we would have preferred a good 2 hours before getting back on the plane. But we knew this beforehand so not a complaint.

Terminal 5

First time here, looks amazing and still looks very new but we were a bit underwhelmed. I thought there would be a lot more shops and food options.

Would we fly with BA again yes we have flights booked elsewhere this year but next time to Oz we will try emirates as we have heard great things.

Thanks for the review, good to read. We flew BA for the first and last time 8 years ago (LHR to Rio route) and vowed never again (it was terrible!). We are looking at flights back to the UK from several places in SE Asia - cheapest city wins ;), so to read about your good experience is useful as we aren't sure whether to consider BA in our options! It seems that some routes are better than others, a friend flew with them to HK and he said that flight was awful as well.

It's nice to hear of an accurate and well balanced review, but as #1 confirms as soon as something positive is posted up along come ten other people saying XYZ Airlines were awful and the two words 'never again' repeated.

I took the same flight last May and will do again this coming May...I would never consider flying economy such a long distance, but sometimes needs must. The transfer in Singapore was simple and efficient. I have no desire to stop enroute, I want to get to Sydney as quickly as possible, and back home, so this flight suits me absolutely fine.

Yes I think with everything there are good and bad points no matter how good or bad your flight was

Just wanted to add a couple of things. I have paid for advanced booking on BA. For me, it was worth the money to have peace of mind that I would have an aisle seat for some long haul flights.

My second comment is that I usually order a special diet meal-usually low calorie. It's something I need anyway. They are not necessarily better but you do get the special meals first.

We took the same flight out to Singapore with BA. On the flight my seat in economy would not recline and I could not move as the flight was full. The staff were amazing, polite and professional but they could do nothing and so the flight was uncomfortable. The entertainment was fine and the flight ok. Coming home was not so good. The plane was scruffy and old. In my row of 4 seats only one entertainment screen worked and the row in front was the same. Only one monitor that I could see from my seat was working properly. One seat on my right would not remain upright so the passenger had to struggle to eat. The food choices were restricted on the flight over as the first choice of dinner had gone but we did have a reasonable breakfast. The meals on the way back were not good, one option was fish, not appetizing. Again the crew were amazing and as we had no films to watch I was given some magazines from first class but I was sorry to see the state of the plane - it looked old and scruffy and I think the crew were aware of it. I did complain using the official form about the first flight, and heard back, an official reply. When I did the same about the lack of entertainment - I heard nothing at all. The result is I cannot imagine us ever booking with BA on this journey again, or any other, and I cannot recommend it. Terminal 5 was exactly as described above and we shall be looking at UAE flights as they are recommended by many people I know.

Don't forget our friends at Emirates, Qatar and Ethiad are by no means perfect.

"We took the same flight out to Singapore with BA"

Are you positive that it was the same flight? (i.e. BA15/16 LHR-SIN-SYD and not BA11/12 LHR-SIN)

Unless there was an equipment change, the 777-300s that are used on BA15/16 are all fairly new. BA11/12 alternates between 744 and A380.

If the plane was noticably old, I would venture a guess that you were on BA11/12 on a 744.
