Any luck getting Delta to help with lost luggage?????

Delta CEO Richard Anderson uses the words honesty and integrity when defining the "Delta Difference". However, Delta lost my wife's luggage on her way to India due to a 5-hour delayed Delta flight and a strike in Paris. Two weeks later, Delta has taken no responsibility and offered no help. Our luggage remains lost and Delta does absolutely nothing. Worst of all, Delta personnel have repeatedly lied about the strike in Paris which was well covered in the news. Other passengers lost luggage.

I have no idea what yopu're aksing. How do you know Delta has done nothing? What help did you want them to offer? What help have you asked for? Can you give us some useful details?

And it's unlikley that Delta is responsible for the luggage being delayed: luggage is handled by the airport ground staff, not the airline.

The luggage is not 'officially' lost until 21 days have passed.

I see no evidence at all that it was Delta that lost your luggage. I think you need to dial down the outrage and follow the claims process.

(To head you off, yes, I'm from Atlanta, and, no, I don't work for Delta.)

Does Delta fly from Paris to India?

It's the LAST carrier that's responsible for lost baggage claims, so if your Paris to India flight was operated by someone else (like Air France) then that's who you need to talk to.

I have never found Delta to be remotely difficult about luggage. On my last international flight they discovered in Chicago that one of our suitcases had been returned to Atlanta rather than forwarded to travel with us on our European trip. I do not know how they even knew to check that, but the attendants in the Chicago sky lounge discovered it, located the suitcase back in Atlanta and made arrangements to have it sent to our final destination.

No one has ever been deceptive with us at Delta. If I were having difficulties, however, I would keep moving up the customer service ladder until I found someone who would help me. Or, call Mr. Anderson. You won't be allowed to talk with him, but you will probably get someone with more answers than the people with whom you are currently working.

I understand that you are frustrated and very unhappy, but I would suggest that you approach this situation calmly if you want to encourage people to help you.

I think the problem is probably that Air France lost the luggage as I don't think Delta flies CDG to India. I expect it was a code share, but the lost luggage report has to be filed with AF.

"Delta has taken no responsibility and offered no help."

The original post supports this contention. Several responses point to other organizations that might be responsible for the loss of the luggage. That might well be the case, but it is also possible that the bag never made it on the plane to Paris in the first place. In any event, Delta clearly wasn't helpful-even if not "legally" responsible, the op is justified in being angry at being blown off by Delta from which he apparently bought the tickets. For example, it sounds like they never explained any of the actions to take that were explained in some of the posts.

I have no problem believing that Delta was worthless because when Delta lost one of 4 bags checked in at JFK for Paris, they did nothing to help, even tho it was reported promptly to AF, their baggage agent in Paris. AF agents repeatedly expressed their frustration at their inability to get anyone at Delta to respond in a meaningful way. Finally, I emailed my brother, who works Delta baggage at another airport, to have him contact someone to get this resolved. He had difficulty getting a fellow worked to care, even tho the bag was just sitting there in plain sight.

Its of little comfort to be told that the bag isn't "officially lost" until 21 days have passed-the airline sets the rules not based on what is best for the passenger, who has suffered the harm, but on what is best for the airline. In fact, I'm surprised that they don't make it 21 years.

Wow! Lots of fast replies. Here are all the details covering my wife's experience.

I checked one bag in my trip from Louisville, USA to Bangalore, India. I arrived in India, but I have still not received my luggage 13 days later. Records (BLREK24709) indicate that Air France lost the luggage between AF0017 and AF3830. Per Leslie Freeman of Delta Louisville, "Air France says that the baggage was not loaded on AF3830." Air France repeatedly lied and said that the luggage had been given to Emirates, but the records state Air France lost the luggage. Air France also repeatedly lied by denying the June strike which resulted in lost luggage for many. Delta and Air France personnel continue to tell me that I must seek reimbursement from Emirates. Given the facts stated above and given that the position of Emirates that they never had possession of the bag, I do not expect compensation to be forthcoming from Emirates. I will be working with the Department of Transportation and seeking legal action if I do not receive my baggage or compensation from Delta or Air France.

Flight Information
