"This was the first time I’ve used TripAdvisor to do cold research by location. We were going to visit Phillip II’s Palace, the Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial and wanted to find a place for lunch.
Thanks to TripAdvisor contributors (especially uwman, Laurel, Maryland) we discovered El Pase..."o, although it was not so easy. Our GPS did not recognise the address but we learnt later that the restaurant is technically in El Escorial (as opposed to next door San Lorenzo del Escorial)….a little confusing.
We rang to book on the Saturday morning itself, but the restaurant was full (the first sunny weekend for a long time). They offered us a table in the bar area and we quickly accepted. They also recommended we park near the restaurant and walk 10 minutes up the hill to the Palace which was a great idea and avoided expensive parking.

"This restaurant was recommended by La Genara (No. 1) as we (5 people) wanted to try the roasted suckling pig. We sat outside under the warm sun of a Spring day. We opted for the Set Menu (€36 pp) as suggested by the waiter. It includes five starters to share (the grilled peppers were the best), a ch..."oice of six main courses, desserts, wine (2 bottles) and mineral water (3 bottles). We were served shots and coffees as complimentary.
As this restaurant is very near, you can visit the monastery, get out at any time and come back, so we decided to have lunch after spending two hours visiting the splendid building, we had our meal and then we went back to finish the visit.
The service was friendly and attentive. I did not give the full marks this time because I feel that they can lower the price a bit.

"I'm perplexed about the negative reviews. I live in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and eat here regularly. The pizzas are excellent and the prices very reasonable, The choices of wine is relatively small but it is a good value-for-money selection. In the spring and summer, there is a good terraza to eat..." outside which is not usually noisy despite being close to a main road. This is by far the best of the four dedicated Italian restaurants in San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
