Excellent food, with a modern take on traditional dishes in a lovely quiet setting. I don't think there is anywhere better on the island if you want to try traditional Maltese food. The service is efficient and the host excellent. The degustation menu at 15 Euro is unbelievably good value! Will be back! More

If you enjoy good food and are visiting Malta, you must take the opportunity to eat at David Darminin's excellent restaurant. In my view this should be in the guide books as a major Maltese attraction. Four of us ate at this restaurant, with my wife and I selecting the 7 course tasting menu, supplements by a further couple of... More

This is genuine food made with love by the owner - David. The welcome is warm and heartfelt and there is real pride in the local food being served. Vegetarians can be catered for. This place offers essentially a tasting menu (fixed) with a few side options so bear this in mind. The artichoke soufflé and beautiful Easter figolini for... More

David Darmanin is a trained chef who decided to open this shop whose speciality is traditional Maltese and Mediterranean dishes cooked simply but well. I have been there on several occasions and it's always been a great experience. It verges on pricey, but the focus on ingredients David has is well worth what you pay for. I would recommend the... This must be one of the few local restaurants that cherish and promote genuine and typical Maltese recipes. The unpretentious and proud chef/owner, David, always prepares freshly cooked food but with a limited menu. Nevertheless, this must be one of the best restaurants in Vittoriosa and well worth a visit in this historic town. The restaurant is small and is... More

visited this restaurant 29th october. After reading all the good comments i was really looking forward for this night. Their were two of us and we paid 12.50eur EACH. the menu consisted of a six course meal, of tiny portions which four of the these plates were to be shared by two. In my opinion the price we paid, 25eur... More

Dear Christine, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We offer two degustation menus, one at Eur12.50 per person (6 course meal with 12 different items) and the other at Eur17.50 (6 course meal with 17 different items). Opting for the latter 6-course menu (at Eur17.50pp), along with a good bottle of wine and a bottle of water between... More

Taverna Sugu does what it promises well: it offers a degustation of authentic Maltese cuisine with food prepared as per the original recipe with fresh genuine ingredients. The restaurant is housed in a house of character at the heart of the historic town of Vittoriosa (Birgu) and the atmosphere is exquisite. David, the chef owner, visited us at the table... More

An absolutely passionate chef-patron who knows his stuff and is backed by a team of extremely polite and courteous front of house team. Had a degustation menu with everything from horsemeat sausage to a caramelised pear with traditional ice cream. Absolutely smashing and seriously underpriced by a painfully humble chef-patron! More

Taverna Sugu was the lifesaver for a small international meeting which unfortunately was held in a hotel with disappointing conference facilities. David's menu degustation is typically based on seasonal fare but all conjured into mindblowing combinations with a fantastic presentation. You get 6 courses with around 3 small portions per course presented in a nouveau cuisine style. However, if you're... More

My wife and I always try to find small rustic restaurants which offer traditionally cooked food with that home cooked taste. Taverna Sugu solves one of our biggest problems when try to select one starter, one main course and one dessert out of all whole list of choices by offered a small portion of a large selection of traditional Maltese...
