I travel abroad quite frequently using our national airline, Air Malta, and on the inflight magazine its always a pleasure reading an article about food by chef Etienne, the owner of Lupanara. But the pleasure stops there as this restaurant doesnt match what he writes.
The place is outstanding, hidden in the rocky bastions. Nice decor. Intimate. Good service......but thats...

If you really want to impress your guests, I recommend Lupanara. I was lucky yesterday - we dined outside overlooking the sea and bastions. The weather was marvellous. If you have foreign guests, ask for the Maltese platter and specifically request Maltese olive oil (a great combination with Maltese bread). Great piece of steak - but the fish was also...

The menu here is refreshingly different, food with a twist and attentive service. Lampuki served three ways is worth the trip alone. Leave space for dessert - got plate envy from the next table but just didn't have room. Easy parking. Going again soon!

The food was at best average, we had 3 pasta dishes 2 of which were terribly bland. A tuna steak and a rib eyed steak, both of which shared veg which was sparse for 2...

I went to this place a few days ago with my fiancee and must say I was VERY disappointed with the service/attitude/atmosphere/cleanliness
- waited for ages to get the menu
- waited over 1 hour for the food to arrive (only 2plates)
- the table cloth was stained with lovely red wine (the place was almost empty when we arrived)...

Excellent food and great ambiance. The only negative aspect was the lack of heating which was sorely missed on a cold and wet winter evening.

My wife and I had discovered from friends of the existence of this bistro, and we became a 'Friend' of the Lupanara on that basis.
We recently went to Malta on our annual holiday, staying in Sliema as is our wont. But, of course, the Lupanara was high on our agenda of things-to-see.
First of all we went to explore...
