Stumbled across this restaurant while walking around Spello one quiet night. A bit off the beaten track but well signed from the main street. It was too cold to eat outside so we ate inside in what appeared to be a cave, quite unique and reminded us of the sassi's in Matera. The restaurant is fine dining and the menu... More

We have eaten here about 6 times in the past 2 years and have always been well pleased. Quite apart from the traditional Umbrian fare - with a modern and lighter twist, the views from the summer terrace are beautiful and magical at nights! The service is delightful - very agreeable young people with decent English and time to chat.... More

Great Food and Great Service. Located in an old brick building with a vaulted ceiling but decorated in a modern decor. The water and waitress were attentive without being annoying. The food was top notch but the prices were very affordable. A great value. I'd highly recommend it. More

We dropped in without booking and were seated on the balcony with lovely views of the valley. Service was good and the food excellent. Antipasti to start was great followed by excellent pasta main courses and the vino di tavola was superb. More

Three of us had lunch here on the terrace. Pleasant view, nice ambiance and an interesting menu. We had three primi and I had a secondo to follow. First impressions of the primi were good flavours but small portions. The pasta with wild boar was excellent, the stuffed pasta (cappallaci) were good, and the pasta with 'guanciale' and walnuts ok... More

Excellent Umbrian and Tuscan fare with a great sunset view from their terrace tables. Refined dining with an emphasis in local ingredients and wine. Friendly staff are happy to assist non-Italian speakers but the menu can be navigated with a basic Italian food vocabulary.  The rabbit and veal dishes are highly recommended.  More

We spent a week in Spello and had 2 fantastic dinners at Porta Venere. The dining room is beautiful and a combination of rustic Umbrian charm and modern elegance. The owner Marco tends to every detail from the table settings to the wine list. He welcomes his guests and shares his passion for his restaurant and the delicious food. We... More

Quite an elegant little restaurant this, both in terms of decor and food, tucked away down a side street just off the main drag in one of Umbria's prettiest towns. We ate zucchini flowers stuffed with black rice on a bed of Mornay sauce, pasta with fava beans and saffron and rabbit with lemon and capers. The room has great... More

We spent all week in Spello and finally made it here after trying to go to Il Molino. unfortunately, they were not too interested in us as it was 5 minutes before opening so we walked around and found this jewel. We were greeted with open arms and escorted to a patio that has incredible views of the surrounding area... More

If you want to have a fine dining experience in the heart of Umbria stop by Porta Venere. You'll find it on a lovely side street of Spello. The street is lit by gas lights each evening in preparation for the evenings guests by Aldo, the grandfather of the family who owns and operates it. The terrace view of the... More
