Great food and good service. Friendly with the kids. NOT a turist trap. Hidden gem in the OldTown. Great local dishes. Great fried calamaries.
It was by chance that we found this restaurant. If I were planning to go there, perhaps I would not have been able to find it. It is a hidden gem in a nice part of the old town. If you find Yannis, then you are not far away from La Varka, just keep going straight, Yannis to your left,... More
If you are looking for gourmet/way above average greek food that is prepared in an innovative way, then this restaurant is for you on Rhodes. I stumbled across this place by sheer accident on this trip to Rhodes Old Town (my 5th trip to Rhodes thus far) and I was stunned by the excellent menu. Everything from the fish to... More
When we ate at this restaurant the first time, we were impressed. We then decided to return a second time....big mistake. The second time round was very disappointing. Service was ho hum and food just average.
At 5 Sofokleous Street, Old Town, Rhodes, this restaurant is away from the business of the main street. We went twice and had good experiences both times. The food is fresh and takes an interesting twist on "Greek Cuisine". The chef has international experience and it shows in his recipes and presentation. Given that fish is expensive in Greece, I... Located in a pleasand & lively side street of the Old Town, La Varka offers excellent seafood choices, everything fresh and cooked in olive oil of top quality. Really tasty tiny Symi shrimps, sun-dried grilled octapus and mussels cookes in white wine and garlic are among must-try specialties.
We really enjoyed our meal here. It is in a charming part of the old town. It was a Saturday night and the band was great to listen to. We found the waiters to be lively and good fun. The food which we shared was creatively different. Greek food with a twist.
We ate at La Varka twice during a week's stay in Rhodes Old Town. The first time we ate inside to admire the beautiful old Rhodian ceramic plates they have on the wall! The fish was excellent and we particularly appreciated the imaginative vegetarian starters of zucchini and aubergine - not always found in restaurants in Rhodes. The second time... More
The food was excellent, being recognizably traditional Greek food but with an interesting new take on some of the flavourings. If the owner hadn't been so phonily chummy (i.e. pushy...), we would've enjoyed the meal all the more.
We went to La Varka in Rhodes, Old Town during a six day stay in the Apollo Guest House in May 2008. It even had an excellent live Greek Blues Bouzouki group. After all the warnings re the expensive/frozen/from far away/tasteless fish we found this place had very fresh fish, priced by the kg. At €30/kg my bream was €9.... More
