We were excited about trying the restaurant based on many of the reviews and it's ratings. Just so you know what to expect- the chips are too thick and cold, the salsa is about average but the margaritas are below average- so in SA there should be no excuse. The menu is above average. My ceviche was past it's due... More

This is my favorite mexicant restaurant in San Antonio. I like their salsa so much, it's the brand I buy at the grocery store. They make fantastic margaritas...I prefer the fresca which is fresh (like the name) and not frozen. If you're brave, order a "twin towers" margarita which comes with 2 test tubes of additional alcohol--one tequila and one... More

I had never been here the entire 25 years I have lived here but I always passed by and thought "I need to try that restaurant". It is easy to pass by as it looks like a white adobe brick house and one would think its small inside, that being a false thought. As you walkin you might even think... More

Recently my wife and I visited this restaurant for dinner along with friends. For a supposed "top" rated establishment we found it to be serverely lacking both in its physical plant and the quality of its food and service. Our rating shows our impressions of our visit. First, while the restauant may, years ago, been upscale, over the years apparently... More

I was taken to La Fonda during Fiesta as we wanted to get away from the crowds and it was a good choice as the restaurant was not packed and we were able to get a table in the lovely enclosed courtyard. The margaritas are great (I had the Cactus flavoured one) and the food well-presented (although my spinach enchilada... More

We went there on a Saturday night during Fiesta so there was about a 30 minute wait. We ate on the patio and the atmosphere and wait staff were wonderful. The portions were ample and the prices are reasonable. This is definitely on my list of restaurants when I return to San Antonio.

While visiting the area we were directed to try this landmark restaurant for great Mexican food. We did and we liked very much. Great selection from the menu of dishes we have not experienced from the Northwest . Wonderfully presented and very good food at very reasonable price. Our server was average, but we plan to return while on our... More

I think the 30-45 minute wait for a table on a Friday evening is a bit much, there were empty tables visable so that means they are cutting corners on staffing and choosing to make customers wait. Can't review the food because I walked out.

La Fonda continues to attract a crowd probably because it is the oldest Mexican Restaurant in San Antonio. It was very good, but not any better than a lot of other Mexican restaurants in Texas. I'm from Dallas. We were in San Antonio during Spring Break and wanted the folks from Colorado to enjoy Mexican food in Texas.

Being in Texas, of course La Fonda on Main has some Tex-Mex dishes which are great. But where they really shine is with their Mexican regional dishes. My wife's favorite is the Camarones a la Veracruzana. Mine is the Puntas de Filete. The atmosphere is tranquil and beautiful, especially their enclosed open-air patio. Casual, friendly elegance is the watchword!
