I had the Jezebel roll and a Kiri Ichiban which never hurts. My friend had the trusted tempura something because he's chicken. Can't complain about the service or the food.

Since opening, this place has become better and better. Most rolls and menu items a standard sushi restaurant stuff, but there are some gems so be adventurous and ask about the unfamiliar menu items. One thing that shine here is the service. Always timely and accommodating, even during busy lunch crowds.

We typically stay in downtown SLC during trips and being from an incredibly small town I love the Gateway Mall. Per a colleague's recommendation a few years ago, we started going to The Happy Sumo over Ginza. He had mentioned that a few of the rollers from Ginza had moved to Happy Sumo, which was a selling point for us....

I would have never thought that I would be writing a review for s Sushi restaurant located in a mall. Usually places like this cater to the quick in and out crowd, get people in and get people out. Happy Sumo is easily in the top ten for sushi restaurants in Salt Lake City.

Lots of exotic choices for sushi on the menu. Average in my opinion. Service was good though and this was during the height of the xmas shopping season. If you are in the mall, maybe check it out, but it's not worth a special trip.

When I go to a restaurant with my spouse, one of the most important factors that helps it stand apart from the competition is the ambience. In the case of The Happy Summo, it fails miserably. Walking in the front door, I should have recognized that the cheap decorations and tables used would be a sign of things to come....

Great food but lousy service makes the total experience of dining at the Happy Sumo a bit of a mixed bag; additionally, the ambiance of the place lacks any degree of warmth, uderscoring the indifference of the staff.

I love this restaurant! The quality of fish is outstanding, and the service is always on point. Maybe not the most traditional style sushi in the world, but I kind of like that aspect. It really sets it apart from the rest of the average places in this town. The rolls are delicious and inventive, and the chirashi bowl is...
