Imaginative cuisine -- the ingredients sometimes looked over the top, but the results were magnficent. Friendly service, with the chef coming out to talk to all the customers. We were lucky to get in without a long-standing reservation.

We dined at Bibou on a Sunday night; only the fixed price menu was available. We started with a soup (delicious) and chose the foie gras appetizer (even more delicious). One member of our party chose the fish while the rest of us chose the pork. My husband's pork was perfect, moist and tender. Unfortunately, another member of our party... More

Scoring a table at this new star on the South Philly scene takes pluck, or in my case, the right friend. But regardless how you get there, the Calmels will not disappoint. Be ready for cozy, but not cramped, seating in the modest dining room. Flawless, knowledgable and unobtrusive service make you quickly succumb to the happy energy of this... More

Pierre Calmels and his wife have a delightful restaurant. Elevating French "country" cooking to "high art," the food is adventurous, and the service is always among the most friendly in the city. We have been here four times with no disappointment. I suggest leaving your "prized collectible" bottles at home (it's BYOB), and instead bring high-quality examples of Middle Loire... More

It was a very adventurous meal. Everyone in our group stepped out of their comfort zones a little, and my god ... Are we glad we did. Highlights were the marrow bone, the steak tartare, and the escargot. My entree was interesting. It was a seafood dumpling. I've never had anything like it. It was this cakey-doughy dumpling with fish... More

She had a " to die for" monkfish in langoustine sauce with bits of the langoustine tail in the sauce. That was great. I had a piece of sturgeon that was beautifully prepared, but which had some herb in the sauce that which wasn't quite to my taste. She had started with a rich bean soup as an appetizer that... More

We have wanted to dine at Bibou for quite a while. Fortunately, we have friends who have regular reservations and they invited us to join them. The food was delicious and the service very good (just enough, without being overbearing). Chef Pierre greeted us shortly after we were seated and again came to our table before we left. We did... Bibou is one of the finest restaurants in Philadelphia. Pierre is the chef, Charlotte is the hostess. The food is excellent. The menu changes weekly, although some items are permanent. We especially like the Sunday night prix-fixe. $45 for 4 courses. The soup is the only course people don't select. The apps, main plates and desserts are chosen by the... More

Order from every course because the portions are small, marrow especially good. You do get the feeling that you are judged by the wine you bring, if that matters to you bring the best you can afford.
