We stopped in at the bakery on our way back to our hotel from a great day skiing at Mammoth and found lots of yummy sweets (and more) to choose from. They have chocolates of every kind, truffles, chocolate covered strawberries, pastries -- carrot cake, canolis, eclairs, breads, cookies - from oatmeal raisin to chocolate covered florentines. They also have... More

What an incredible place! So much deliciousness in one spot it was hard to only choose a few things. We decided on the world-famous Sheepherder Bread and what looked to be awesome oatmeal cookies. The bread was fabulous and the cookies tasted even better than they looked!

Everything positive you have read on Trip Advisor about this place is true ... the pastries are out of this world and a great cup of coffee ... every morning the place is packed ... Any negative comments about the service must come from impatient visitors - the staff is run ragged with the constant volume of customers. Also, this... More

Our hotel was right across the street from Schat's - that can be dangerous. We stopped in our last day to stock up for the drive home. Ham and cheese bowls were delicious. We devoured them on the drive back to Orange County. Wish we had bought more. Got several loaves of bread which disappeared too fast.

The tables weren't clean but service was fast and friendly. I did notice while waiting in line that they were friendly if you smiled at them first. People must jsut be tired of tourism in this area.

This is a must stop when staying in Mammoth. We came in the morning for the SF cinnamon rolls and a sandwich for lunch when up skiing. The place is great. And stop at Schat's down in Bishop on your way home to pick up some of sheep herder bread.

We always stop at Schats' Bakery in Mammoth, on the main road into town. They bake so many breads and rolls that we have probably never had the same one twice. Fresh Gelato in about 10 flavors and more candy and confections that you could ever want to try. Samples are often available. Day Old breads are usually available on... More

Schats brings back childhood memories of trips to June Lake...and the Mammoth Lakes location is just as delicious. Fresh squeezed oj, blueberry muffins, Squaw bread, and some sort of croissant-pecan pastry that was amazing!

Freshly carved turkey, fresh bread, and sprouts! Best sandwich in town. The lines do get long so make sure you're not too hungry when you arrive.

The baked goods are very yummy. We stopped for lunch and had soup and sandwiches. It was delicious, maybe a bit pricey. The people that worked there were all very nice and friendly. The dining area left something to be desired. A little run down, and maybe a roof leak? Water was dripping from the ceiling in a few spots.... More
