Description: When Shinbashi originally opened in 1974 waitresses wearing traditional clothing served the then novel sushi and traditional Japanese dishes. Shinbashi became popular amongst Japanese businessmen visiting New York and the restaurant was reviewed in the New York Times by Ruth Reichi in 1998 calling it "venerable Japanese." The new incarnation is following in the tradition of attracting Japanese guests but does so in a modern setting. The restaurant remains streamlined and cleanly lit so as to showcase the food. Quality of fish and presentation are of the highest standard and it is this attention to detail that is carried into the attentive service. Shinbashi offers an environment for you to appreciate your meal at the pace you choose and the space to enjoy your conversation.

We went to Shinbashi b/c it was rated high by Tripadvisor. We had lunch sushi which came with miso soup and salad that was not so fresh. The quality of sushi was excellent, and knowing the same set at Hatsuhana is $ 22, $ 17.25 was reasonable. This place reminds me of sushi restaurants in Ginza - fashionable and attentive... More

Our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant to us. We almost turned around after entering because it was so empty on a Saturday night. I'm so glad we didn't. The food and service were excellent. I went there with my husband, kids, and mom (who, by the way was born and raised in Japan). We all loved it. Hiroko was an... More

I know we were in NYC, so everything was expensive. We ate good quality of seafood and also got good services, but I felt a little more expensive than we expected.

We went here for a business lunch and were not disappointed. The lunch specials are very good value, and the restaurant convinced us with friendly and efficient service. We asked for a couple extra items, which came very well prepared with fresh ingredients.

Husband and I popped in at 6:15 on a Friday night. Wasn't v crowded. Service was fantastic. Had miso soup and some rolls. All was fresh and well prepared. We were thoroughly satisfied and would definitely recommend to others. Also, it had just about the cleanest restaurant bathroom I've ever used.

Great food and the service was wonderful. Our waiter , ED, from Bali was patient explaining the menu to us. We had the tempura meal called Tendon Goshen and it was an awesome meal with good friendly service. I wish there was one in Dallas or Ft. Worth.

Good for lunch due to its pricing but suitable for quiet conversation. Authentic Japanese food.

Waiter spilled an incredibly hot green tea on my wife and just said I am sorry just like a machine. A woman in charge of the restaurant came to me and say "I am sorry" just like a machine again. I have never had such an awful attitude from staff in NY city. As Japanese I can never recommend this... More

Jono and Em found this place while we were visiting them in NYC. Excellent food - highly recommend the Shabu Shabu. Good selection of Sake as well - and very attentive staff.
