Don't expect TexMex food here. Empellon Cocina serves very innovative food with Mexican twists. It focuses on "small" plates, of a size that four or five easily make enough for two people. Our waitress was excellent in providing guidance through unfamiliar dishes. Each was excellent.

we had 5 dishes: the guac, carrots w/mole, hen of the woods and squid. All were super tasty! 2 desserts were great as well. The room is incredibly noisy but the food is worth it! Service was ok - not great

Despite the glowing reviews in the new York times, our party of 4 found only the guacamole and appetisers interesting. The entrees were either bland or over salted and the tamale was stodgy.

After having read rave reviews of this place in the New York press, we looked forward to some great new-wave Mexican food here, but everything about this meal was disappointing. Very cool new wave Mexican. I went with my friend from NYC and it was amazing! 230 West 4th and cross street: W 10th St. Food was sooo delish, great cocktails and service was fantastic. Had a great loooong lunch here!
