Description: Esca is a Southern Italian Seafood Restaurant created by Mario Batali, Joseph Bastianich & David Pasternack. Esca showcases the style & sensibility of Italian coastal cooking. Dave went to Italy & saw firsthand what they were talking about. After years of cooking French food, Dave had finally found the food he had always wanted to cook. The best fish available, prepared in a simple & delicious way. In Italy that means the local catch, but in New York that means the best fish of the Pacific, Mediterranean & our own backyard. At Esca you can eat the most sought after Pacific Ocean delicacies along side Fluke that Dave caught on his day off. The menu changes daily & is driven by the fish markets of the world & the farms of Dave’s friends. Esca is the place where you can have stunning raw fish, an incredible bowl of pasta & then a Mediterranean Branzino cooked in sea salt. Esca is the best of Italian coastal cooking with access to the world’s greatest fish.

We go to Esca every time we are in NYC. It's always great. Wonderful fresh fish. Subperb service. Tonight we had raw salmon to start. Then lobster spaghetti. A beautiful pan fried whole fish. Wonderful desert. More

We recently had brunch at Esca on a Saturday morning before seeing "Once". The food was amazing! Salads were great, fish appetizers were fresh and flavorful, and the cocktails and daily homemade sodas were very unique. The wait staff gave suggestions but didn't push any certain dish. Half of our party was 30 minutes late, (subway delays, and they were... More

Overcooked fish at a seafood restaurant? Really? Poor experience. Great room and service, but fish was dry and overcooked. Prices were extreme - everything is a la carte and priced in the mid-20's to mid-30s. Not worth it. For an Iron Chef experience, go to Nobu! More

Was recommended to us by our Hotel (who up until this point had delivered on more than one occasion) for a pre theatre meal. The food was quite simply terrible. Whilst deciding on what to have the waiter romanced us with descriptions of some of the dishes and upon this we went for a few of his dishes. However upon... More

On a recent trip to New York, we were recommended by our hotel to try Esca before a trip to Broadway. During our trip we were lucky enough to sample some of the best restaurants and meals that New York has to offer and Esca was most definitely not one of them. The restaurant's reputation prides itself on its italian... More

This place was recomended by my friend and we came without any reservation. But we managed to have a table outside. We ordered tasting menu in the raw list and it was delisios!! Black pasta was the one to dye for: perfectl amount of sauce, enough spicy and seafood. And one of the most important is the staff. They are... More

Mario Battelli has such a great reputation, we were surprised how uneven his offerings were. My wife and I shared two appetizers, one crisp (cold), the other hot. The crudo was four tiny medallions of king salmon with some mild sauce that tasted like ...salmon. The soft shell crab was very tasty except the portion that was burned. The sea... More

Did the tasting menu supplemented by a tasting of six different crudo. The crudo was great. The Gaeta olives were wonderful as were the freshly made sodas. The tasting menu food was average when considering the price. The service was very good although they sometimes were a little quick in picking up plates with one or two bites left. Seating... More
