Katsu-hama is a great lunch option for business or casual lunches in the Midtown area. They specialize in katsu-don (breaded and fried pork cutlets served over rice), meals that come with a sesame-seed-based gravy (you get to grind the seeds yourself and mix it with the gravy). Katsu-hama also serves berkshire pork, although considering that the pork cutlets are tenderized... More

This review is for the 47th street location, but i think the overall quality of food at the 55th street location is better. At 47th street i find the tonkatsu a bit heavier, but it is good. this is an authentic Japanese restaurant. More

This place was really, really good when I started going in 2003. Now it's just so-so. Considering it's one of the few if not only places that specialize Tonkatsu, I still go there from time to time because it's fun to grind your own sesame. And I love the cabbage and the salad dressing. The miso soup used to have... More

We chanced upon this unassuming Japanese restaurant as we were walking around looking for a non-Western lunch before our flight home. As it was crowded with Japanese, we thought we could not go wrong. We were surprised that the restaurant is actually quite sizeable with seats hidden upstairs and at the back. The food is authentic and each meal cost... More

Place doesn't appear clean. The food is just average and over priced. Lunch menu is limited and too simple. No sushi served at the table. The service was just average. There are better restaurants in the area in the same price range. More

I think this was the second time I ate alone on a restaurant. This has been my favorite when working in NYC. When I went to NYC for seminar and there was no way for me to leave without eating here even if I was alone. When I went there for lunch, it was CROWDED! The service was quick, food... More

Tonkatsu is a traditional Japanese comfort food of fried breaded pork. It is dipped in a special Tonkatsu sauce and eaten or served with curry over rice. A good tonkatsu has just the right amount of breading, is lightly fried and piping hot. Katsu-Hama scores highly on all of these areas and is very reasonably priced to boot! I had... More
